I have been told that with some of the center case bolts come loose and fall out. I was going to remove mine and use red lock tight and re tourque.Any one know the tourque specs or just run them down with an 3/8 impact gun?

I've not heard of any coming loose, and I've played with quite of few.

Out of curiosity, what differential you working on?

Anything can be broke with enough tires and enough horsepower. From everything I've experienced, and read, and know - including talking to factory reps at Detroit - this is a non-issue.

However, if you're worried, pull the differential and just check your torque specs on where the diff bolts are set now.

Now if you are experiencing an ARB failure as described, that's another story.

Jobless can tell you different. I'm pretty sure I remember him have issues a couple times with the bolts backing out.

But this appeared to only be a problem with the drop-put detroits, like a 9" or Toy uses.. not a problem I have heard of with Dana Detroits...

But this is Webwheeling info. IIRC Jobless safety wired his bolts in last go around and no problem sense.

Jobless also had far more year's of use on his than the average Joe.

Usually if bolts are backing out it's a bearing preload issue. I've been at a couple of shops when they've removed Detroits with the bolts backed out and the cases almost fell in my lap when the bearing caps were removed.

Regardless of what you hear on off-road BBs, diff installs are best left to the pros.

This is a slightly different situation. From what I understand on some axles like the 9 inch the ring gear bolts also tie the two case halfs together along with the case bolts that are separate. On Brads the ring gear bolts came loose, same thing happened to my 60 detroit. Isn't this thread regarding the bolts that hold the case halfs together, not the ring gear bolts? Brad wired his ring gear bolts, I think these are the problem.

Yep, talked to the folks at Detroit about this...it's all in the setup of the preload on the bearing end caps.

It can happen with any split case differential.
