Detroit locker question

This is a slightly different situation. From what I understand on some axles like the 9 inch the ring gear bolts also tie the two case halfs together along with the case bolts that are separate. On Brads the ring gear bolts came loose, same thing happened to my 60 detroit. Isn't this thread regarding the bolts that hold the case halfs together, not the ring gear bolts? Brad wired his ring gear bolts, I think these are the problem.

Yep, talked to the folks at Detroit about this...it's all in the setup of the preload on the bearing end caps.

It can happen with any split case differential.

OK, like I said, web-wheeling info so I probably never got the whole story.

However he did say 9", and brad's running a 9" so I figured it was worth the mention. Atleast now he knows to get the preload right :D

I need to wrench more :redneck:

The locker just showed up and it is the new style were the ring gear bolts hold the case halves together. The pics I saw were from a D60 Detroit and it had seperate bolts holding the case together. Possibly when I get the Detroit for the D44 it will be the same as my rear locker design.
