I searched and couldn't find any threads on using a diesel pusher to tow a 4x4 on a trailer.

What should I look for when purchasing a used model? I have no Idea where to start. I went to the local dealer and there was so much mumbo jumbo it made my head spin.

one thing i have noticed...in motorhomes overall.

make sure what the hitch reciever rating is what you will need, as some are VERY low cause there is no frame back there to attach the reciever to...

It should be pretty clear as to how much weight you can tow.. A friends 40' Monoco has it listed right on a plaque. Should show dry weight. How much weight fully loaded and then the total combined weight.

The ones I looked at had class 4 or 5 hitches i think. Looked like the same hitch i have on all the ranch trucks that dont haul goose neck. What I'm worried about is power wise. I know they are heavy but I like a little bit more power than the next guy. I've always owned dodges as ranch rigs. and when the cummins came out the first thing was strait pipe and injectors because if it ain't smokin your not making power. I want a pusher with a cummins and I want to turn it up a little.

one thing i've learned with large diesel pusher motorhomes.. You will always be complaining that you can't bump the power. It's not like modding your pickup. In a motorhome, I never even care about going fast. Cause i'm cruising in absolute comfort.

Do you own a diesel pusher? I'm really looking for info on this. Thanks.

Nope I don't own one.. After I installed a Smarty on my Dad's Dodge, he could walk away from his friends 40' Monoco (while he towed his 40' toyhauler). His buddy tried like crazy to get some extra power out of that motorhome. Everywhere we looked, you were limited by the transmission and they wouldn't bump the hp on the larger diesel pusher motorhomes. But I don't see why you'd need to. His Monoco does just fine up Vantage while towing an enclosed motorcycle trailer (8.3 cummins).

Thanks jeff. I was talking to one of the locals that was a big wig at westwern Rv and he told me to leave it alone otherwise you waste fuel and its hard on parts.

I dont see whats funny. everyone knows diesels smoke under a load and there is nothing wrong with some smoke from a properly tuned diesel engine.

Anyways this weekend we were driving cattle in, not me i sit at camp. but I'm sitting there drink in hand looking at my pitiful 5th wheel thinking man i wish i had a motorhome. so the search is on and thanks for the info guys.

Bossman i think he was shaking his head at your comment about not making power unless you smoke.

While most diesels that make good amounts of power smoke, a really good tune on a diesel can put down lots and lots of power, with little to no smoke. The only thing that your smoke means is your dumping more fuel than you can use, not that you have a ton of power. Maybe you need a bigger turbo?

Don't get me wrong, My truck smokes because i don't have a badd ass smokeless tune. and i'm running a stock turbo. But your statement doesn't hold water, there is no correlation between the amount of smoke you make and power available.

That about sums it up.

I enjoy "rolling coal" just as much as the next guy, but all it means is i'm wasting fuel, and being very hard on the truck.

you guys and your fancy new trucks.. If you can give me a completely smokeless 550 hp 12 valve like you can a common rail. I'll kiss your hand

I said "some" smoke not billowing black clouds that block out the sun.

my previous statement about if you aint smokin your not making power was a smart ass remark. i seen the smoke out thread here. funny stuff.
