Welding aluminum to steel? How well does that work?

believe it or not it exists. i believe the process is Explosive, never seen it done but we have these bymetallic strips as the superstructure of some ships are alum welded to a steel hull. due to corrosion we are always replacing portions of them.

also not gonna work in this application.:fawkdancesmiley:

I want to use a forged or billet wheels then weld on the ring myself but this is just one of many ways I am looking into at the moment to jump up to a 17" wheel.. weight my options.

On my short list:
Champion Wheels Rock Thrashers 17x9 (they will also convert aluminum wheels)

High-impact Rock 8 17x9.5 (steel but they also have aluminum)

Walker Evans 17x8.5 (maybe a little narrow but I can get the 4"BS)

Raceline RT235 Desert Monster 1 Piece Forged (But not sure what sizes or lug pattern)

Trailready HD17 17X8.5 (high on the list)

Not for a DIY kit, but why bother at that price.

If you already have a set of "cheap" 17s, send them out to TR or Champion to be locked.

I don't have wheels at the moment but I am weighing the options... But I really do not see the benefits to running aluminum, the cost is very high and I can built steel locks for about 105 a wheel (plus my time) But I am still looking into different options I still have a little time my tires might show up this Friday but if not next Friday.

Get some cool, second hand aluminum wheels and bring'em to TR and we'll beadlock'em......200.00 per wheel complete with everything.I'll turn 'em around next day.

Sometimes cash talks and the owner listens but thats up to him soooo.....

IIRC youre eight lug......my wheels and tires would bolt right on yer rig.....$1700.00
