Doing Some Body Work! Tips?

Your frame looks like it's Diamon'd from the front... (driver's side rail is shoved back) Did you meaure corner to corner on it?

I think thats just because the picture wasnt taken straight on the frame. They both are in fact the same and its square. Ive checked the frame corner to corner, up and down, side to side and its all the same. The core support placement is within 1/8" corner to corner as it naturally lays, and I can get it exact once the body mount bolts go in.

The welder came today! :cheer: I'm pretty excited seeing as it was needed to finish the last steps left to making my 4runner driveable. I've never personally welded anything together, but I see myself learning in the near future. I cant let him have all the fun

Well, tonight I welded in the cross member since the welder came and I finally have some time off again. I haven't welded with a "real" welder in a while, so dont laugh too hard at the welds. The machine is new, and the operator is out of practice. Im also welding with flux core wire since I don't have a bottle yet. Then again, Im also outside.

I also tacked some of the core support on, I need to drill some extra holes for more spot welds, but once thats done, I can move onto painting stuff up again, then just some assembly. I'm HOPING we can toss it together good enough for a run to Reiter on Saturday, but its gonna be CLOSE, more towards the not making it side.

I also got the oil pan gasket changed. What a PITA that is. I lifted the motor and dropped the diff to do it. Glad thats over with, hopefully it doesnt leak! Anyway, here are a few pictures of the new toy and the welds.

It drove tonight! :cheer:

We finished the last of the motor assembly from the tear down, and after a minor scare from a bad idler pully bearing, its running smooth as silk. I still have to adjust the timing a little (its off about 3 degrees), and it needs a new alt and battery, but other than that, its running great!

Ashley took it for a spin around the block out to the main road and back with no fenders, hood, grill etc on it. Pretty much how it looks in the pic from my last post. She seemed like she had fun, haha.

I also got some auto body seam sealer (caulking) from Wesco to fill the gap between the core support and the inner fenders like the stock stuff. I also sprayed all my tack welds down with reustoleum before that. The whole core support will also get repainted soon enough to match the engine bay, but thats later down the road. I figure between the rustoleum, body seam filler, and the ruberized undercoating that will get sprayed in the wheel wells, it should be sealed up pretty good! Can anyone recommend a good undercoating in an aerosol can?

Anyway, hopefully we can slap some fenders back on it along with the grill, get the motor dialed in with a new alt and battery and it should be good to go until we tear it back down for all the finishing body and paint!

:eeek: I wouldn't complain about those welds... expsecially with flux core. They are better than the bird **** I've laid recently with my flux core machine.
