I know a few of you got Dmax trucks. I found a 03 that I am going to look at. What should I look for or should I keep looking. Its got 120K on it.

Thanks Toddy

If it's an 03 make sure it has new injectors. The LB7 engines were notorious for Injector problems.

Yep. I hand on 01 and the injectors failed right about 120k. I would look 04 and up, I think they didn't have the problem

As far as Duramax goes the 06 and 07 classic ( LBZ motor ) are by far the best

Looking at something in the $15K range.Might not find much for that but that's where I am at. So if it has had injectors its OK or be prepaired to replace them. Any other major problems to look for?

Toddy

THey came out with a special injector warranty on the 01-02's, but I am not sure if they did the same for 03's or not. They 02 Warranty was 200k or 7years, so even if they have that for the 03's now it will be out soon.

The Allison transmissions in the early years was better they say than the 05 and up

no way. The transmissions in the newer trucks are way better. The 6 speed allisons hold way more power than the 5 speeds.
That's why I have a Suncoast!!!

u got 6? or 5

LB7s had injector problems as everyone says, and if its got over 200k on it, they will be $$ to replace. The LLYs had some overheating problems. The 06-07 LBZs were some of the best, I had one. Now I got a 2010 LMM which is the same motor pretty much once u remove the BS emmisions. The 6 speed ally is a little stronger than the 5's... I"m looking at buying an 03 dually this week myself, got over 200k on it but they only want 12K for it so I might buy it for a work truck, so we"ll see how long it lasts.

For some reason I was under the impression the older ones would hold up a bit better to a strong tune. I had been told that the 05 and up were easier to go into limp mode. :dunno:

I bought an 07 LBZ classic a while back. The Fords have more room in the back seat if you travel a lot, but overall I really like the duramax. But don't ever put a used auxiliary tank in when you don't know the history of the tank. My truck is a the GM dealer having $2000+ worth of work done to the fuel system. >:(

damn I think you are cursed. What happened?

i love my 06 Duramax, deffinitely has the most power of any truck i have owned

will never own a Super Junky(duty) , Ford may be one of the more respectable companies coming out of the bailouts and all but their diesel motors are Sh!t since they ditched the 7.3, and it wasnt very strong until u chipped it

dieselplace.com will give you all the things to look for in buying a D-max. and everything that people said was a common problem i changed right when i bought mine, no trouble ever since...use good fuel filters :****:

Agreed on the '06-'07 Classic being the best. They are pre-emissions BS, but still have the LBZ and the 6-speed tap shift Allison.
I've owned an '02, '07, and now an '06. they are good trucks.

If you buy though you need to budget for some Cognito **** to beef up the front steering.
