elby log crawl

Looks great :awesomework: Joe and I were talking about drilling some holes and pounding some big rebar stakes through them to hold them in place if you would like some assistance in doing such a thing.

Yeah Joe called me. I realy think they will stay in place. In the pictures it my look like they r just sitting on top of the dirt. But they are butted up to one another and back filled with rock N wood wedges then most off the ends are barred. You real have to push the hole pile(not going to happen) As rigs run it the tire spining will only back fill N settle the logs more. Right now the biggest thing is is just needs to be used. If the logs start being a problem with moving. I will ask Nancy. (DNR) If she doesnt have a issue with that we take that route.

Is Pokey going to atempt the log crawl?

Anythings possible if I can ever get my heep finished :haha: Spent today up at Evans and a bunch of my time right now is being taken up by a property line dispute wit one of my neighbors. Going to set me back a grand (that I really dont have) to have a survey done on monday:booo:

Well when you get done N figuare out where ur property line is. My advice is to build a 8ft high fence. N paint his side hot pink or safty orange. Thatll teach him to leave well enogh alone.:haha:

can I send you guys the bill for a gashed tire on unnatural rebar sticking up when a log gets wore down?

I like gibbys idea of drilling a few holes and anchoring them to the cement plugs in problem spots.

Could either cement an attachment post/log into the ground to butt to.

or

Cement a chain anchor that could be bolted the logs with allthread.

Big spikes and rebar have no place around a $1000 set of tires. IMO.

We are agreeing way too often lately. People are going to start talking about us:haha:

On a serious note, we worked on one of these for three years, and I have a little experience with what doesn't work. Keeping the logs in place was the biggest challenge. We even tried the single rebar stake and u-shaped supports. The U-shaped supports worked the best be we still needed a better way to keep the rebar in the ground, hence the use of the concrete plug to hold the rebar.

The way that WTF has built this, it already stands a better chance of success than what we did, but if they find that there are some logs that just don't want to stay where they belong, using a u-shaped rebar, concrete anchor may be useful.

I agree that could be devastating to a tire..Although i got a long way to go on my current wheeler to find out. What if you bent the rebar all the war around the log in a " U " shape then bend an L on the ends dig a hole drop the bar over the log and pour mud. That way there would be no sharp points at all. I do concrete work so i have a bender and everything to make it happen. Just an idea you could just choke it real tight with a chain and do the same. I think the rebar would keep it place better. I would use at least 5 bar you can even get it coated to last forever.

ChopShop, had fun wheelin with you guys on sat. even tho it was everything i could do to try and keep up with those open diffs. Thats changin quick tho

No rebar, no concrete, just let it get used and the log's will find there happy spot. If they move WTF can just add more log's. The bottom log's that each crawl is started on won't be moving and that's the only one that really matters.:awesomework:

Over time, even the big ones will move but that's not necessarily a bad thing. Some jerk is going to pull out a log cause he's stuck or go sideways and knock out the supporting logs.

A few years back, we spent a weekend digging out mud holes, putting in a solid wood bottom with logs and then putting the mud back in. The very next weekend we heard that people were trying to winch our logs out of the hole because it made them too easy. Sometimes there's just no understanding what some people will do.

I think the rebar supports are a great option to consider IF the logs start moving around and become a problem. Until them, let's us 'em and see how they work. There's no absolute science to this. It's trial and error. Somethings will work better than others and you tweak things along the way.

X2 like i said before i dont see them moving. If they do we will try to fix them with natural items. Maybe dig on eatherside of the logs and barry shorty peices of logs on end. Kinda like on TTC frame twister. But again they didnt move when my 44'' boggers were pushing against them. Time will tell. Dont knock it till you try it:awesomework:

The log crawl handed a cherokee it's ass today... Busted front axle shaft...:redneck:

The linked sami on 35's owned the logs though...:awesomework:

We hit it up yesterday. I didnt even see any tracks coming out of/over the BIG berm on the end of the the new section yet. Its baddass. I like playing there.:awesomework:

I think we need to dig alittle out between the logs on the second section and or find some bigger logs.
