Evans Creek Snow Update

OK, so here is my take on it. I was up there tonight and I don't think there are many, if any, tow rigs that will make it up with trailers. I am personally OK with you parking at the closest location where you can park trailers and safely drive up. The issue is this, safely drive up. By that I mean slowly, within the speed limit, on your own side of the road and refraining from any of the "fun stuff" until you're in Evans. If you drive responsibly, and explain that you parked your tow rigs in a reasonable area, I don't think you'll have problems.

Let me relay a little incident from this evening. I stopped 4 ATV's for operating on the road, all without helmets and 3 with expired registrations. We keep track of our contacts on small incident reports, primarily to justify our time. I intended to warn all of the riders and jot down there names and plates for future contacts. I asked one of them what year his bike was, and his reply was "find out for your ****ing self." That's a bad answer to give the guy that's handing out warnings. Needless to say, his warning turned in to a ticket. I guess my point here is that if you are in the wrong, even if you think it's stupid, play along and be polite. It will usually go a long way. If there is a legitimate violation, even if you don't agree with it, arguing will likely turn a warning or a talking to in to a ticket. That's just my two cents worth. I try to be VERY lenient with the OHV community, but sometimes guys are their own worst enemies.

As for Evans, I'll be around there some this weekend. Flag me down if you see me. Not sure how far up I'll be able to make it by the weekend.

Thanks for all the info... This relationship, between the OHV users and LEO, seems to be heading in a better direction... I now there's still gonna be a lot of people up there that just don't care or that haven't been educated, but there are a lot of us reading your posts and appreciate that you are willing to work with us...

Thanks for having an open attitude toward some of the needs in our sport...

I would believe so as long as people behave themselves . remember there are people that live on that road and saftey and noise are a big concern. I will contact Ian and ask to to chime in here.
Thanks pokey

Thanks for the reply, I'm sure alot of people were wondering the same thing. I would like to get back up there this winter for some snow wheeling, and in previous years have always made it past the houses and parked the towrig and trailer at one of the wider pull offs. This seems to work, and is alot safer than trying to drag a trailer through the snow.

Thank you for your response. It's nice to here that we can play it safe without getting into trouble. Sometimes towing in the snow can get a little sketchy. I'll give ya a wave if I see you up there this weekend, or a tug if you need it:haha:

We went up there last night about 7pm. there was a few more rigs up there, NO way to trailer up there. The 311 parking lot is about 14 to 16 inchs deep. The upper lot is a little over 2 feet. I got a couple of times, sould be real good for this saturday. Better pack a big lunch.

Dude I cant go even if I wanted to. I cant get my tow rig out of my neighborhood safely. I doubt I'll even make it out of my street.

We decided to turn around running out of daylight and crawling on the snow takes forever. Winched to turn around.

Damn... Evan's snowed in quick. :booo:

Apparently, we are not the only ones dealing with LEO's on the trail...I found the following guidelines in a discussion about the Rubicon Trail...sounds like the same advice Ian is giving us...

Guidelines:

- Generally, if you are on paved roads, you can expect to be ticketed for whatever traffic violations you commit

Was that your group that flopped on the 311a today, thought it was a roll over? Everyone is OK I presume?

Yea, it was a soft landing :haha: and yes it was more of a roll over than a flop :awesomework: Hopefully, somebody will post pics up soon.

It was good meeting you this morning as well.:D
