I found the source of my slow coolant leak and terminal antifreeze smell.

Yeah, it's down there, right above the motor mount which is bolted to the huge engine crossmember which blocks direct access to it to pound a new one in... :mad:

How well do those block heaters seal up? Looks like it would be easier to put one of those in than put a freeze plug back into it.
 
Is this on a ford explorer? If so then just pull out the inner fender well (take ya 5mins) and you'll have perfect access to the freeze plug... Use a brass plug and alittle silcone around it and it'll seal right up :awesomework:

It's the exploder. Not allot of room to swing a hammer in there, and it's blocked from getting a direct shot at it to drive it in.

Are the brass plugs that much easier to pound in?

I was thinking this last winter when it was so cold it would be nice to have a black heater for it anyway, but it is $15.50 more...
