"God how I love the smell of napalm in the morni..."

no wait, it's, "God how I love the sight of a unibody getting chopped". I hope you're planning on tying the cage in solid (by welding - not bolting) to the main structure of that rig. Otherwise, I'd worry that she'd twist up like a pretzel when you start articulating it. Either that, or the subframe structure will start breaking free of what's left of the unibody.

Naw, we're gonna wheel it like that until it folds like a taco.

J/k. We will be starting the "frame" this weekend.

All I've got to say is WOH! I've told Kim a many of times that some night when I'm drunk,(which is about every other night, so the odds are pretty high) she is going to come out to a topless two door cherokee.:redneck:

Umm.. wow.. Fifo told me it was in Tom's shop getting work done on it.. but I didn't quite expect to see that.. lol..

Damn.. I wanted to get drunk and crazy with the sawzall!!

Ya, since I have no idea how to bend tube, just how to draw pretty pictures of a cage design, Tom Baker and KarlVP said they would give me a hand. The actual build is taking place in Toms shop in Sultan, the Toyota parts are for another project he's got going. The stock running gear is staying.

The pictures above are what it looked like Sunday morning, we got the first few pieces of tube bent Sunday, I will post up pics later in the week once I have a place to host them.

are you going to duct-tape the grill back in?
i really liked that look, it works for you!:kissmyass:

I put it back on using 10 bolts. Took Tom a while to figure out where they all where and how I managed to get them all on. Finally he resorted to the tried and true method of simply cutting them all off with a cut off wheel. Where not sure what where going to do for the front, a lot depends on how the bumper shapes up.

So how's the new tow rig?

It made it over the pass no problem, though the friendly people here in yuppie Kirkland looked at me kind of funny when I pulled up to the stop lights with a 401 cubic inch engine that isn't shy about announcing that it is in fact a 401 cubic inch engine.

WHOA!

So whats the plan anyway?

I'm working on uploading some pictures of the build now, but here is the overall design as it sits now, most of this is still very rough since we only just started so many of the details still have to be worked out.

Cage Design Small

Basically I'm not really a fan of external cages, and an internal cage wouldn't protect my body, which if you have seen my rig you know it is fairly beat up after only one year. So I decided to chop most of the body off and replace it with tube. However new door are going to be fabricated using tube and sheet metal, and a new flat windshield is going on. My wife wants to keep the back seat, so that is staying and I'm currently looking for a Jeep Comanche tailgate to use on the rear. Anyways there are a number of other design elements that are going into this thing, but you can see them as the build goes. I will post up pics from last weekend later today once I get them uploaded.

Tom gets to work “removing the doors†while I start striping the interior out

We got the doors off and the interior was mostly out when Toms roommate Chad stopped by to lend a hand.

Interior gutted

As you can see the “Unirail†has taken some damage just behind the cross member. To fix this KarlVP came up with an idea for plating the “Unirail†so the undercoating had to be scraped off.

I had a “wardrobe malfunction†with my front grill the other day and used 10 bolts to put it back on. Tom got so frustrated trying to find them all he resorted to the handyman’s favorite tool, a grinder with a cutting wheel.
