patooyee said:I used to work for this no-spine boss who would take anything from anyone. He actually promoted me to be his assistant because he knew I didn't take **** from anyone and would get rid of some of the riff-raff that we needed to get rid of. The way it would work is that I would establish a case against a loser and he would fire them once I convince him. Well we had this really big , mean rugby player working for us and he was BY FAR our worst EE. He didn't do **** and he was DELIBERATELY rude to customers. He was that stereotypical jock that would just sit behind the counter with his feet up when a customer came, give them a mean look, and literally tell the customer to **** off. Well my boss was super-scared of him and I knew getting him to fire him would be difficult. The jock out lasted all the others because my boss kept putting it off but I finally convinced him to do it. Well his office had glass walls so you could see everything that would happen in there. There were also cameras with audio recording. We all expected the jock to go nuclear when it happened so we were all looking in the windows. We saw my boss and him talking and then my boss hung his head down and the jock came walking out with this eat **** grin on his face. I asked my boss what happened and he said he decided against it. I figured that sounded weird so later on I went back to the recordings to find out what really happened. My boss told him that we were letting him go and the jock just looks him in the eye and goes, "No you're not." That's when my boss hung his head and he just goes, "OK, you're right." I couldn't believe it.
So the guy kept on treating customers like **** and I kept protesting to terminate him. It finally took all the other managers in the building getting tired of the guy treating them like **** to get rid of him. They all went to my boss's boss and told him it was them or the jock. My boss's boss finally made my boss let the guy go. ****ing pathetic.
Another funny one. I used to have a chick that would not put her cell phone down. It was a problem with everyone, but her especially. She would hide it in her bra, sock, anywhere, and then steal moments in the bathroom to text and call people. So I watched her go in the bathroom and had my brother text her number, "He girl, what's up?" She replied back, "Who is this?" while she was still in the bathroom. He forwarded me the text and I was waiting for her with it on my screen outside the bathroom when she opened the door. I just said, "Busted! You're fired."
The division of the liquid gases, fab/paint shop I work in is shutting down November 30th and for some reason they gave us 8 months notice. It only affects 3 people but that kind of notice has been a big relief but still an extremly stressfull situation. No hurry to take the first job that comes along and good jobs are hard to find in our area.wgamble said:As a Safety Man, you can't give an employee any heads up that they will be heading out of the gate. One main reason is if they do get wind, then they will usually fake a trip and fall so they can sue the company. Safety records are huge in industry, one person who has an axe to grind can screw up hundreds of days of hard work by the rest of the company.
The only thing I would have changed is I would have never let them get on company property, I fire or ROF them at the time clock, take their ID badges, shake their hand and tell them I hope it all goes well for them.

Having said that, who held the responsibility card for the failure? Who stepped up and dug in deep to resolve the issue? Did you expect the employees to correct the deficiencies? Did they even know there were deficiencies? Blaming the high school kid that pushes a broom or the skilled machinist that cranks out parts is terribly irresponsible. If that particular operation was loosing money, the manager should have been fired a long time ago. The sales force should have been counseled and/or fired a long time ago. If the business continues to fail after a valid effort from upper management then the employees should not have been surprised a bit about the closing.
