Forward or reverse valve body?

I have a th400 in my buggy with a stock valve body and at a high rpm it will not hold first. I did some research and found a way to make it hold first. Had to take the valve body out and grind 2 flats in the 1-2 shift valve and plug a small hole. I guess it was a bypass hole. To my understanding now it works the se way as the transgo 400-1-2 kit does. Still shifts on its own but now it will hold first gear. It works just as good to me a manual valve body would but I can still put it in drive and cruise around.

Blondes or brunettes ? :dunno: :cougar:
I ride with a big block chevy, TCI turbo 350 with reverse body, engine braking, 1100 rpm TCI converter and a blonde. Love all of em!

If price is a concern go with forward manual vb it's a lot cheaper Transgo has a nice kit 400pro gives u the option to keep it auto in D and comes with some other good stuff to help the ol'400 live a longer life :driving:. If not go with reverse manual vb with engine breaking from TCI have put several on the customer loves it after they get use to it. I like'm brunettes :cougar: :****:

Reverse, no engine braking, b and m pro with gates cut out. That's always been my favorite. But I hate the hold back on down hill of engine braking.

My old buggy had t400 rmvb winters cut no engine brake I liked it! My dad has a t400 rmvb with engine brake jut my opinion but it seems like engine brake causes shorter tranny life my just be coincidence but I never did anything to mine his had to be pulled in less than a year?

Perry you were lucky. I went with a TCI full build. Hardened drum and spray, hard input and output shafts. TCI torque converter with thick double welded lugs and 1100 stall reverse body and braking. TCI said it would take 750 HP. The best they had. $2500.00!;
