Now load that ****er up and bring it to the NNR you poop talking vagina

There's a quality piece of advice for someone who sounds like he's learnin to set up gears.....:fawkdancesmiley:
Pinion's way too deep!!! Now take that 1" shim out and start over!!:fawkdancesmiley: J/k keep at it, you'll get it.....

eventually!!!!:D

ya, i've set up a few, just hadn't seen it like this on the first try before.
I took some more out of the pinion (only have two very thin ones in now) and it still looks deep, and there is only a small shim left on the carrier side that would pull it away from the pinion. And I don't have the proper tools to pull the carrier bearings without destroying them.
Should have bought some setup bearings:looser:

I think I am going to try pulling all the shims out of the pinion again, but i feel it was running too far on the outside of the ring gear when i did that... :eeek:

Where is the NNR? Besides, I am not good enough at wheeling to do that run. I will stick to newbie runs:redneck: If i ever get the truck going again:booo:

You sure there aren't any shims behind the inner pinion brng race? or behind the inner pinion brng itself? The last HP44 5:13's I did was a bitch as well to get it right, I was REALLY happy to see that one done!!!!!:thud:

I assume you're replacing a gear set, probably the original? In the future I highly recommend using the pinion depth reference on the end on dana gear sets (you need to replace them with Dana gears). This would let you get the pinion depth right the first time and move on.

No, I had the oil slinger and that was it the first time, and it was too far out, then i put some shims in, then it was too close.

Ok, So if I were to go off the pinion, and if i am reading it correctly, the "+2" is how much shim it needs towards the ring gear...? I can't really tell what the new pinion says, but if i am reading it right it says "+4" maybe...? It's hard to tell.

So here is what the stock pinion reads:

Would it be possible that the slinger NOT be used, to get the pinion out further? cus that I think might be my next option, unless it's critical to oiling... :eeek:

Throw the slinger in the garbage. Is your backlash close now? If it were me I would pull .015 out of your pinion shimming to start, if your bl is good now, it probably won't be then.....gonna have to buy one of them fancy ring and pinion bearing pullers, or just a clamshell and a 2 jaw puller like I use.
