Throw the slinger in the garbage. Is your backlash close now? If it were me I would pull .015 out of your pinion shimming to start, if your bl is good now, it probably won't be then.....gonna have to buy one of them fancy ring and pinion bearing pullers, or just a clamshell and a 2 jaw puller like I use.

I started with nothing but the slinger, and it was giving me a pattern close to what i was getting now with a tiny shim behind the slinger...

I have a bearing puller, but i am afraid that if I used it on the carrier bearings it would destroy the shims I think I will try again tonight with the slinger out and a smaller shim in it's place to start.
