Yes I am posting this in tech :flipoff1:

New bike is known for throwing a lot of heat at your shins. There is a recall for it to somehow re route the heat out the side vents like it should. I was wondering if wrapping the pipes in header wrap if that might also help. PLus I will not have time to get the recalls done before my week trip anyway.

How long does header wrap last? This is a street bike that will see a lot of rain, but that's about it.

How do you hold down the start/finish of the wrap? stainless hose clamps?

Is the stuff from JEGS, Summit, etc all the same? Better makes, some to avoid? I want to wrap this when I have the plastics off for my first service in a couple weeks.

The parts stores generally have it on the shelf .... Oriellys etc. Its a lil spendy, but for as little as the bike would take you should be golden.

Clamps yes.

I looked a bit at Vato Zone and nada. No Oriely's here either. I might just order it online.

I use DEI, you can get it from Summit, or Jegs, or Speedway, but Oriellys and Vatozone also carry it.

For securing. They make these cool Metal Zip ties. I've used them in tight spots but prefer hose clamps.

To start the wrap is easy, just do it how you'd tape anything. The finish is what sucks. I do a folded corner and tuck it like you would a US flag when you are done folding it.

It will hold up to the water. Now you may have to re-do it at some point, but I bet its a ways into the future. Its very durable. When it gets wet, it just steams off, when it gets oil on it, it smokes off.
One thing I'd suggest, wear long sleeves, and rubber gloves when wrapping it, you get all that metalic dust off of it, and it sucks.

I need to wrap my junk at some point... just hate spending money on stuff like that laughing1

If it lasts a season and every winter I have to redo it I am fine with that. I would think it'd last longer though. 8-12K is a season for me

So what does Bones get for; one posting Tech, and two posting in the correct "Tech" section.
And 3, what do I get for a thread derail?

It's amazing sometimes isn't it? I can impress myself at times, but it usually involves a nudity and a magnifying glass. molaugh

I dont know if Id say correct...

he shoulda posted it on one of the murdercicle boards he frequents.

Between the gay male, motorcicle, and 4x forums he's forgetting which post goes were... hence all the gay stuff with DV8 on here.

That **** is fiberglass, it made me itch for 4 days. Wear long sleeves and long pants. Wet to keep dust down and make the wrap look better at it will stretch a little. Don't soak, just wet it. Did I mention long sleeves, oh yes what ever you do, DON'T TOUCH YOUR ****, piss before your start!!!!!!!!

If you want it to look better longer get the black wrap. The white stuff gets dingy and nasty looking.

Laughing with you John we use this same stuff to wrap exhaust on generators and it was summer hot and the generator was in the woods so I let it go. Damn that **** hurts.

x11ty kuhtrillion....

i did both sides of my exhaust on a hot september day with shorts and not shirt.....BIG MISTAKE!!!!!

How much does this keep the heat in? I have had a problem with my trans pan leaking on the passenger side and I believe it is due to the exhaust. I have replaced the gasket 3 times I believe, the last time with a new pan...so I know its not bent up......just been thinking about this stuff for a while.....

Brian

How close is the exhaust to the gasket area? Mine basically rubs it most of the way down the driverside. And of all the things that leaks on mine, the tranny doesn't leak out the pan area. Now how many quarts have I lost though the vent at the top of the dash??????? TOO DAMN MANY!

Dont use zip ties, thay work for a few days then they melt off, duh. Its a pain to work with, It took me two seconds of fiddle ****ing to realize to wear gloves. I used tha black as well. I know advance auto here has the white stuff.
