Heep 242 T/case question

The easy thing would be an AWD type case but the want/need to be able to actually wheel (as in Low Range Locked) the rig and NOT buy fuel for AWD in the summer time...
Ya I know 2 rigs!

Take the 242 and score a 249 for parts
. I read awhile back that some guys on Cherokee America (whatever it's called now) were swapping parts to put the wide chain into the 242 and keep the part time 2wd hi feature while still having viscous coupled 4x4.
