JEGs' sells a quality kit The rollcage is only as good as the welds. We put one in a Friends 9 second Camaro and it held when he hit the wall at the top end landing it on its lid.

What axles are you running? A 10bolt rear will not hold up to big tires and a locker. After the Engine/Tranny I would upgrade the axles, 14boltFF are dirt cheap and found everywhere and a D60 can be had for 1K plus shipping from this guy http://extremeaxlesales.com/index.asp?PageAction=CONTACTUS

If you cant afford the 60 look for a 3/4 ton 44 or 10B front to get you by.

Whatever you do dont waste money on 1/2 ton axles for a fullsize.
Get a motor in it and a fresh tranny buy a winch then wheel it with small tires (35) while you save/stockpile for better Gear.

Swap in the Geared and Locked 1 tons with a 40+ inch tire then you will want the cage.

I wheeled with 1/2 ton $hit for a while with 38.5 boggers and I was always worried something would let go in a bad situation. which kept me from driving it hard. Now I have 1 ton gear and piece of mind when I hammer down with the wheel cranked or the ass end hopping.

I dont know what your Budget is and the resources you have but I'd rather see you out wheeling than waiting for high dollar parts while your rig is tore apart.

BAD ADVICE!!!!!!

any axle with a 297 U-joint will not get you by in a K5...PERIOD!!!!!

we beat the piss out of my 69 with the 44 frt axle running a 400+hp 327 and only went through a couple of axles in 5 or so years. racing and trails.

33s

All I know is in your other post these guys said to keep the K5, and build it. Now they are confusing you. Take what you have, considering it is what you like and what you want, build it the way you want, and tell everyone else to screw off. If we had all listened to the negative people, we would all be driving POS Foreign trucks(not American made)(for all the flag wavers driving foreign trucks). By the way, I do not where you live, but I have a shop in Gold bar, if you don't mind driving there, I can help you out as much as possible.

I will get you by if you carry multiple spares and the means to repair them
:flipoff:

I went thru multiple 297s' and shafts this year but it kept me wheeling while I gathered money and parts for my 60:cheer:

X2. All you need is a little stupidity or dumb luck
If thats the case, full rollcages should be in every production vehicle.:kissmyass:

Ok so im gettin the rebuilt 350 soon for $500 a great deal it has less than 3500 miles on it. Still lookin for a rebuilt tranny i ahve an auto 700r4 so im lookin for a rebuilt one so if anyone knows anyone that has one pm me. than im gettin some bigger tires 37" or 38" cutting ou the fenders, gonna get a roll cage not sure if i should jsut get the JEGS roll cage or a custom one? and save up for osme 1 ton axles? sound like a good plan?

100% True. The cost itself would mangle the industry.

Even the TJ cages are made of stamped HREW. Not the greatest, but they will do in a pinch.

Not everyone can be as cool as you:clappy:

I dunno, you can wail on some fullsize 3/4 ton running gear. But when you really want to beat on it relentlessly, why not start with the best?

dont get me wrong I want the 2.5 tons but the budget wont allow..... Yet.

I'm definately not trying to insult the guys running one tons. The reason I say they are worthless is because no matter how well you build them their still gonna break far easier than a 2.5 ton or a mog axle thats stock. That being said, if its all you have great, use em. But, if you dont have axles yet which I dont think he does, dont go buy one tons! Its gonna cost atleast double if not triple the amount of money to build them as it would to get rockwell that are good to go stock(IE $1400.00 for a pair), thats what some folks are asking just for a front dana 60 thats stock!:devil2:

Then in 6 months when you realize the full size just isn't cutting it you have a axle (Rockwell) that's useless in a smaller rig. Buy a 60 in the first place as that's where your going to end up. Or just wheel what ya got and get used to fixing it.

Why do you think a rockwell would be useless in a smaller rig, if that was the chosen route? Seems to me there are more and more people putting them under jeeps, yotas and other small vehicles everyday.:D

Yeah, trail's more fun when your rig actually fits between the trees. I'm not even going to talk about the issue of their weight.
