So i have the stock axles and everything. i found a guy on craigslist with chevy parts and i called him. I asked him for a dana 60 front and full float 14 bolt rear. Is that a good setup? Anyways i called him and he said that he could give me a Dana 60 Posi 6 lug with a full float 14 bolt posi 8 lug rear. for $400? Is this a good deal or do you think that this guy doesnt know what hes talking about? im new to offroading so your advice would help tons.
thanks

I think it would be a good deal for both.

But a 6 lug front D60, you might want to verify that in person, I don't know of any, there might be some but not that I have seen.

well since its my day to get endless **** i am sure somebody will say i am wrong but here it goes. I have personally never heard of a ton axel having 6lugs makes no sense and secondly nobody sells a dana60 front and 14bolt for $400 i am more guessing along the line the it is either a dana 44 or a 10 or 12 bolt corp model. dana60 fronts alone go for easily $1000. So personally i wouldn't give that guy a dime sounds like he is trying to pedal some **** he doesn't want and trying to make money. u can find a 14bolt rear for $100 if you look. i actually have one if u want it like $50.
Correct me if i wrong people!!

yea thats what i was afraid of i mean ive never seen the front dana 60 for that cheap. but you guys agree that a dan 60 front and 14 bolt rear sounds good?
thanks

I know slim to none about axles other than Toyotas, and the fact I want something stronger, but the kid has a point. 6 lugs on a one ton axle? I dunno about that...

if you could find that setup i would say run it u have a fullsize. my question for u tho what size tires do u want and what do u plan on doing with that cause ur talking about adding alot of weight to that thing for those axels and if u only want to go to like 36's ur stock axels will handle the abuse for awhile and atmost u might just replace ur rear

It doesn't hurt to go look at them, if you can't identify them, take someone who can.

You never know what you might find, to him they may be just a axle .

60/14 bolt is a very good set-up Boxxerace ran it in his suburban with like 10 inches of lift and 40 inch tires he never had a problem, i would have to say yes to that be pretty much perfect for ya

yea i mainly want to stick to mud but do some trails but not any top truck challenge type stuff. hahaha. yea im thinkin that all im gonan need is to jsut replace the rear. i mean id liek to put 37" or 38" tires but its gonna be a DD. so im not sure if i should invest in the bigger axles now or jsut upgrade the rear and go with 36" tires? because it is still a real capable rig with 36" tires jsut 37 and 38s are jsut a little bit bigger. so should i upgrade my axles to a dana 60 front with 14 bolt rear? or jsut replace the rear and get some 36s and wheel it till stuff breaks?
thanks

to convert a dana 60 to 6 lug requires a new hub and adaptor assembly
NO FRONT 60'S ARE 6 LUG IT IS A ONE TON AXLE

In my opnion i would go ahead and upgrade now so that way later on down the road you wont have as much breakage and if you wanted to you could run the bigger tires. Start with your base and go up from there

Well i have a full size 77ford i have a 3/4ton setup bigknuckle dana 44 and rear dana 60 on 36 iroks. no breakage no matter how hard i flog on it. atleast not the axles i blew my transfer case tho. Mudding personally i think is the worst thing u can do to ur truck. I know its fun to show off with ur big v8 roaring but u will understand the first wheel bearing that seizes or when u ass end locks up at like 5 miles and hr cause its full of mud.

ok you guys. so im set on the dana 60 front and 14 bolt rear so im gonna ask this guy where he is located and for some pics of the so called "dana 60" and "full float 14 bolt rear" and ill post them up when i get them because i wouldnt know how to tell if it actually is what he says. hahha and i plan to go big with my fullsize so im gonan suck it up and get the 60/14 setup because eventually this thing will jsut be an off road rig.
thanks for all the input guys

Not if you change your fluids basically everytime you go play in the mud, and i would suggest running breather tubes into your glove box so that way no water and such gets in yer diffs (well less anyway)

No problem thats what were here for:hi:

I would get a 3/4ton dana 44 and a rear 60 or 14bolt. U are talking about dumping like $1500 into axels on a daily driver to go out and romp on it once and awhile not worth it. 3/4ton dana 44 around $300 or less and 14 bolts $200 or less. Definelty strong enough for 36's and can easily take 38's if u want but may need a front shaft upgrade. but if you have that kinda of money laying around go for it

I am telling u right now that is not a dana 60 so watch urself dont get screwed i know of like 3 ways to tell if its a 60 from what i understand there will be a 60 stamped on the top of the ears and on the bottom side of the centersection. And by the width of the axle tube 2.5in dad44 or smaller 3in=1 ton axle

Its cheaper in the long run to bite the bullit and do it now rather than buy smaller axels and decide to go with bigger tires down the road and then start breaking stuff, espicially with a DD/wheeler you want you **** to be strong so it dont break so you can drive it to work/school
