Hydro assist

u dont need to worry bout your pitman arm. go with 1.5x6, thats what i used and works great never had problems. smaller the better. it takes a second for the ram to catch up with the steering wheel, u get used to it. id like to upgrade my power steering pump but its really not all that bad. i run 38x12.50tsl it feels like a stock toyota minus the steering wheel to ram lag. i did the drill'n'tap with IFS box

if i only go with a 6" ram i'll be limiting my steering, for a longer wheel base veehicle, not hte best thing to do.

i need min 6 9/16. anything longer and i can put a stop tube in it, no worries. I even have a nice chunk of brass to do it, and a good lathe at work.

almost not done, thanks but i'm looking for a little bit longer, i don't want to loose what limited steering i have.

Well I test drove it and it is a little slow, not bad, just could be better, not looking forward to it but I guess Im gonna have to get into the pump.

i don't know what size, just tear it apart, find the orifice, endlarge it a touch. if still to slow.. a little bit more.. i'm talking .5mm incriments.

I have not done it on these pumps, but i'm not concerend.. WHEN i do decide to do it.
Search around, i'm sure some of the toyota guys can tell you

Bump.

What length ram did you use yankee? 8" limited down? How did you limit it?

I know chainsaw used the bling-bling PSC stuff, but I'm a cheapass, and surplus center has rams for cheap...

Also, cooler, just a standard tranny cooler plummed into the return side? How about a filter? Just a standard hydralic filter plummed into the return side? Before or after the cooler?

For my rig i have 6 9/16 travel. so i'm going to limit it to 6.5.
My plan was to tap the orginal box. (i have a spare to screw up)
any cylinder would work, as long as its rated for the pressure. (1800psi should do)
Get the correct ends to mount it, and fab my own crap.

As far as limiting it, just spin up a stop tube, use brass (if you get a 7" cylinder, which is standard, make a half inch spacer and place it on the rod end of the piston, it can float). it won't gaul the rod or cylinder.
for hydro assist, i'm thinking 1.5" bore, .75" rod.

I had planned on using just a cheapo tranny cooler. and builind my own resevoir. I actually thing, i have 2 nissan ones, i was going to chop the bottom out of the other one, and weld the 2 together, it will look stockish, and all fittings will still work.

I just havn't had time, been traveling alot, and just want to go wheeling when i'm home.

in reality, its not often that i find it would be THAT benficial. I just want to do it, to take stress of the pitman arm. (i still have the old stock one, machined out to 5/8)

Thanks man! I guess I need to wheel it first, then see what I need to upgrade.:haha: I think a lower crawl ratio or an auto trans is going to come first...

don't put a nissan auto in it.

in retrospect, unless you REALLY want front digs, get a cralwer set from calmini, and a slip yoke elmintaor, and wheel the piss out of it.
i wheeled mine for 3 years, with zero iesues. but front digs are cool.
