I've noticed that whatever vehicle I'm driving(insert can't hide money joke here), that I am never passed by anyone on the interstate, I am the one doing the passing. This includes towing the rig in a 1500 gasser truck too.

I think for the most part I'm an 80mph cruiser but if the weather is kickin ass and/or a good shuffle song from the playlist comes on, I'm not stranger to a 90+mph pace.

This all came to fruition tonight as I approached a vehicle doing 90mph in the fast lane, yet I felt the need to pass them....and did and just maintained 100+ on to my exit ramp.

I do have road rage, mostly toward idiot or ignorant drivers.....not so much people just inconveniencing my Bonneville runs of 90+ mph but more so toward the ones that do not go right on red, the puller outer in fronter of guys or the ones in the fast lane doing 50mph and get passed by 17 cars and still do not move over.

I think the slowest I drive on the interstate is in Dad's Cuda, and that's usually 70 or so. Mainly due to it not having an OD and the fact that 70mph feels(and sounds) more like you're doing 90.

Anyone else a fast driver?

Nope. 75 max on in the interstate unless I am driving 10+ hours. Then I might hit 80 but it has to be non populated.

It burns too much fuel and stopping distance is greatly increased. I also have kids and I'm old. Truthfully, I run 68-70 usually. The key to it is to watch your mirrors. I speed up when I need to, get out of the way before I need to and adjust my speed with the traffic. 20+ mph over the speed of other drivers that aren't as adept at checking mirrors, changing lanes, etc is a recipe for disaster. Like I said though, I am getting old.

Yep, I'm right there with you Tony. I hardly ever get passed by anybody. I tend to make late night runs to Taco Bell that is one exit away for me and the wife...when I do I'm usually in my 2010 dually which runs 108 mph, I usually run 108 mph all the way from one exit to the other.

Damn....i'[m really not trying to make myself out to be some kamikaze on the interstate. I mean when I say I'm speeding, its just straight line stuff and I'm just cruising. I don't weave in and out or ride peoples ass(unless they're doing well below the speed limit).

I think maybe it has something to do with newer/modern cars being built so much nicer than 10+ years ago. I remember when I had my old Cherokee's and other random buy here pay here lot refugee's I pretty much did 70-75mph because ....well....it FELT like I was goin' fast enough. My truck and car are just extremely quiet and easy to drive that I guess it just gets away from me.

I've tapped the 105mph limiter(or whatever it is in an 08 Chevy 5.3) once and didn't know it. The truck slowed down and I thought something broke on it. I had no idea I was up that high in the MPH. But if I recall correctly, I honestly think traffic around me was doing nearly 90-95 as well.

Re:

On the test drive I hit triple digits in my wife's new mobile, just to see if it'd do it. Once again, it's not your driving to worry about. It's all the junk that's on the road and all the awful drivers.

I usually pass, get passed 1:1 to 3:2.

It's fun to ride with Kmcminn because he is hell on wheels on the interstate.

That's one of the the things I've always loved about my Dodges....they don't nose dive when you hit the speed limiter, they just cruise at that speed.

[dodge joke]They probably forgot to put that computer algorithm in there because they never thought a dodge would last long enough to hit triple digits[/dodge joke]

;)

All this being said, the wife is a horrible interstate driver. She'll pass and re-pass the same car 5 times between exit ramps. It drives me up the wall. 60mph to 75....back to 70......up to 75.....back to 65....up to 80......back to 70.....up to 75....back to 65......rinse/wash/repeat. UUUUUGHHHH!!!

Re:

I keep it pretty close to the speed limit. My license is my livelihood and I'm ****ed if I lose it or even add points to it it. My friends give me **** for driving like an old man but it just comes natural after having to do it all day.

My coworker does the same **** and it drives me crazy any time he drives. We were on the way home from upstate New York one night taking turns driving so we wouldn't have to stop and he does that **** to the same truck probably 10 times. I finally told him to set the cruise or pull over so I can drive.

I do 80-85 on the interstate unless I'm in a congested area or a place I know cops sit. If it's late with no traffic I'll run 90+. 70 feels like I'm sitting still in my truck.

Yup! Most of my interstate travels are from 9pm to 9:30pm....working 3rd shift and all. I kinda like leaving work around 6am-ish because everybody I think is late to work so they're doing like MACH5 tryin' not to be late. Those are what I call "rabbits" and i'll hook up with them and do 90+ home being like the 3rd or 4th car in the line. Letting them be my "cop finder / sacrificial lamb" to Joe Lawman. :)

On my long trips to Lexington or Columbus I'll set the cruise on 85. I usually hook up with somebody else or a line of people doing 85 and try to be the middle car, because the popo is more likely to pull over the front or rear car (I hope). The only deal breaker is people who don't use the cruise control. If I have to SET+ or SET- more than twice, I'll slow down to 77 and wait for the next "dummy train".

Re:

I drove from around atlanta area to port carnival, FL doing 83mph. Just enough to not be bothered by cops. I hate having to drive toward atlanta due to the amount of traffic and stupid people.
What I enjoy is a car with enough power to move around in traffic easily. Wife's car is hyundai 2.0t. My 250 or car has enough power to move around. Depending on what I drive dictates fuel consumption depending on just how fast i go.

If I flog the Beamer car, it still gets mid/upper 19's. Staying out of boost / around 80mph, it'll stay in the 21's-22's. My truck got 16-18 no matter what I did. Dads Cuda will get 9 to 10 no matter what you do. :)

Little story.
On the way to Orange beach last year heading down I65, my wife and son were both buried in there Ipads not paying attention, when in the rear view mirror I noticed the unmistakable lower LED lights from another MBZ E55 approaching in the right lane. I was already doing 85 in the left lane driving like a bunch of butt sniffing pack mules, when the instigator passed me in the right lane. Well, it looked clear ahead, so I switched over behind him and we proceeded to pick up the pace to casual +140 mph. If any of you have been down this highway, you know it's straight-long-and 90 mph is the normal speed everyone drives. Yah, I know what most of you are thinking, dUmBaZz with family in the car. YEP, it was pretty stupid, and right about then my son looks up from the back seat and says "Dad, why are you going so Fast?"followed up by my wife asking the same.BUSTED BY MY OWN FAMILY Me"it's his fault in the other E55" Wife "Well pass his asssss" It was ON like a fat kid on cake. So it was around the 160 mark, We both finally gave up and backed it down to around 90 mph. It seemed like school buses were passing us then. :****: Now, every time we run down that highway, I am always looking in the rear view mirror looking for them lights and someday, well, you know the rest of the story.... :driving: :dblthumb:

I used to treat every drive like a race, but I guess I'm getting old cause it doesn't bother me anymore when I'm doing my 81 (in a 75) and I get passed. I look at it as them doing me a favor and getting the speeding ticket instead of me... On occasion I will get a wild hair and run whatever vehicle I am in out...but only on open hwy.
What really rages me though is when someone is doing 73 in the left lane to pass someone doing 72 in the right lane. FOR THE LOVE OF GOD GET OUT OF THE WAY!!! THAT give me road rage...

I did get a rental M5 for a drive from Vegas to SoCal in Feb though... that was a fun ride. The wife took a flight back home and I had to go to Orange Co. for work. Hooked up with a Benzo and a Porsche and we ran 120+ for a couple of hours... I was actually impressed with the M5... Not impressed enough to shell out the ducats for one, but it was a nice comfy triple digit ride...
