In the market for a tow rig.

mmmmm airride hitch, sexy.. wtf is wrapped around it though? :fawkdancesmiley:

And I guess now you're looking into 2wd's???:corn:

No, just thinking, that all. :flipoff:

Found a few very nice 7.3 fords in the area. Still holding out for that sweet D-max deal.

I shied away from the early model D-Max because of all the problems people have had with them; I have yet to meet someone I would consider knowledgeable who would recommend one. And the later model years are out of your price range.

I would look at the 99-2002 Fords with the 7.3 such as this one:

2001 Ford F250 4x4 Crew Cab Super Duty
$23,995

Or consider getting a 2001-2006 Chevy with the 8.1L big block such as this one:

2001 Chevrolet Silverado 2500 4x4 Crew Cab $16,988

GaryTJ tows with an older big block and he does just fine. I would talk to him about how well it tows and what king of fuel mileage he gets. You might be surprised by what he says.

Ok, here

This is the same reson I didn't concider a D max when I was in the truck market a few years ago. At the time they were crapping head gaskets faster then you could keep track.
Has this been resolved?

that was the first year of production. on the duramax boards you never hear of people popping head gaskets. i have the lb7 engine and its been flawless. i will admit to the injector issue....but gm went out of there way to warrentee that(200000 miles).

ive had mine for little over a year now. put 35000 miles on it, drove the piss out of it. check engine light came on for a glow plug relay. truck still started, ran and drove fine with the issue.

it just seemed like a dumb comment to say knowledgeable diesel people wouldnt reccomend one

I've got the same truck, two years older, but 30000 LESS miles (only 96K) and it's $5000 less. And I'm a little flexible also. I sent Karl a PM when this thread started, as I reluctant to mingle business with internet goofin' off, but anybody who buys that one should first see the one I've got for sale.

If I were you I would look through Texas and New Mexico because trucks are a lot cheaper, fly down and drive it back for less. This one is high mileage but pretty cheap.

x2. I bought mine in AZ and saved $3-4K over what I was finding locally, and got exactly what I wanted. There were a TON of cheaper trucks in Texas, too.
