Insurance scam

Travis you might be fuked. What plates did KS issue you? truck or RV

RV tags - I had a 3-4month fight with the DMV, Hwy patrol and state tag people. I wanted to be sure I could tag it as an RV before buying, I got sent in circles with no one claiming to be the ones to decide. In the end the Hwy patrol inspected it as a truck - they just check VIN to see if it's stolen. I took that to the DMV and asked for RV tags and they said here you go. No one ever looked at my "toilet" and my "sink" or anything. I had a stack of print out of laws and statutes ready for them but no one cared.

In my research there is no exemption for a Class B license for RV's but they all said I don't need a class B to drive an RV. I found differently by my interpretation of the laws. So I called to set up a driving test. They asked me to describe the vehicle I would test in since their facility is small. I said my 2000 Freightliner FL70 RV - they said I can't take it in an RV. I said but it's 33,000GVWR and has air brakes - they said NO call back when I have a proper vehicle to test in.

Sounds like you suit and tie insurance company is out of it's league. They're to accustomed to Camrys and Accords. They might have some experience with Winnebago but not custom conversions.
If the state says it's an RV, it's an RV.

Sounds like you're buying 1-800-safe auto or some other fly by night shatbucket company... who ya with?

I'm with you! and yes they are out of their league and I need a better company

California Casulty is the company name - my wife's parents have been with them for 20+ years or some ****. They have no problems since all their stuff is run of the mill, but I'd like a "person" to come shake my hand and say he's got it taken care off from now on. I wish I woulda keep a list of all the different states that I've talked to calling the same 1-800 number.

He asked if it been converted - nope.
It has been converted, from an FL70 truck to a Toter Home. This can be a touchy subject, alot of conversions were being sold as new when they wer'nt. If your cab is a 2000 and your conversion was done in 2003, it's not new. When I talked to a finance guy about getting one myself he was real addament about miles, year, make, type of conversion, and who did the conversion. With all the financial issues with the banks and the cost of Rv's in general taking a huge plunge they maybe be just trying to cover their asses to make sure what they are insuring is what they have.
Your toter is a conversion classified as an Rv not an Rv. Plus if you have advertising on it, they could look at it as a commercial vehical, then your in a whole other class of classification.

No advertising on any space on the truck. Done for a reason. Haven't been hassled by any LEO even when driving by open scale houses. The truck is a 2000 also. The conversion was done by Rockwild and I in the driveway so there is no way of listing it as any other vehicle. The adjuster was a fellow wheeler and had been out to the shop before. Travis actually bought some parts for the buggy from him. loller.gif Sounds like he was ok with everything.

There was no conversion done - we put ramps on the back and added some tie downs to the box

I had the appraiser take pics of the Not for hire stickers, title, reg and tag that says RV - and I put a psuedo sink in place
