Just checking to see if new owners were running the park or if it closed.

The news was the GAP's last ride was "I think in October" under past management , The park was selling. But I was just checking on a update!

Re: Re: Is GAP closed ?

I attended their "last ride" but that's doesn't always mean anything.

Gap is still closed. Jon Glass is still leasing the property to store his earth moving equipment but there are no rides happening there. The business is still currently for sale.

Yes closed. But there is a mud event just announced there.

Did John move yet? Wasn't that why he closed the park?

From what I heard, he got a job with Georgia Pacific and wasn't gonna have the time to mess with it anymore.

I may be mistaken though. That would be a question for Brett.

ROCK JUMBLE,,,,,,now THATS funny molaugh

And yes its very sad that GAP is no more, baddass wheelin,,,and an even better racin park.

Mud Mania is one of them 5K mud runs. They've done a few there. Prolly a contract or something.

Yes but, this is one little sliver of hope, that with the right deal, the gates could swing again.

Let's hope so John, that is one place I could pack up the whole family and all the toys and go have a great time. Plus it is close to us folks South of Atlanta. Some great friends and memories were made there.

I agree, it seems possible that a promoter could hold a weekend event if they handled insurance, cleanup etc?

Doubt it through John Glass. That's why it seems he wants someone to assume his lease from Tom Haley, until his lease is up.
If I were a rich man, I'd buy the land. I would not lease it from Haley.

what's the difference between a obstacle course/mud running event vs. a offroading event? either one can be independently put on by a outside promoter who handles all the insurance/logistics

Mud runners are usually healthy and don't throw beer down their necks like we do :drinkers: John Glass has been AT the park every event that I've attended there, he probably don't want to open the gates and trust that others (bunch of drunk wheelers) to treat his property and facilities with respect and not trash everything since he obviously doesn't have the time to devote to it anymore. I don't blame him either if that is the case. This park isn't like most parks. I could drive my little Saturn to just about any corner of the park....which means all the little hell raising idiot college kids with daddy's money comes in there to fawk off in there smoke stack lifted diesel trucks and whatnot. Which heightens the possibilities of vandalism, theft, blah blah, if the event is not "policed" like all the other ones I've been to. There was always security, several park staff, and John himself, out mingling around with the wheelers and ensuring everyone was able to have fun, but order of things were still under control.

Just my off the wall theory for endlessly wondering minds. If it were my ****, it would be hard for me to trust someone I may or may not know to hold an offroad event without me being there keeping an eye on things.
