Myself and 3 others from my work have recently received the opportunity to go through a 6 month training period in the front office, in preparation for a lot of the old fawkers who are to retire out over the next couple of years. My 6 months will begin in January. I will likely be training in order management, others in procurement. Then when the old fawkers retire out, us 4 will be the preferred candidates to back fill those jobs over all other applicants. Slow process, but at least it's progress, pay more with larger bonuses, and I'll still maintain my 20 minute drive to work once I secure a full time office position instead of having to drive an hour or so to Huntsville or Chattanooga. And best of all.....day shift flex schedule! Holy balls, I've been on 2nd shift for 17 years!
