Jeep TBI help

I will start with the fuel filter then test, should it run a filter between the tank and pump and one between the pump and the TBI, when I checked the fuel pressure I removed the filter up top and installed the pressure gauge in its place. I have not checked the timing yet cause I can't see the timing marks with the York compressor in the way, I will have to get some different belts to run it without the compressor for testing but maybe I can cut a sight hole on the inner fender for access. I will do some research on the Howell system to check on the 1 wire disconnect at the ECM for setting initial timing.

I am actually glad this thing is not working right, it is forcing me to understand how to work on it:rolleyes:

I would fix the fuel pressure issue first before I made any other changes (like timing) you have a known problem so fix it first. Also, is the fuel pump a long ways away or a lot higher than the tank? Fuel pumps don't like a long pull from the tank.

:cheer: I changed the filters and WOW this thing runs awseome, thanks for the help.

I have another question:
when I try idling over some obstacles [at home] and the rpms drop to 500 or so it automatically jumps up to 1,500 for a few seconds before it settles back down to a normal idle. Is this normal?

If it still has the EGR, disconnect the vacuum line to the valve and plug, then try it again...

Manual or automatic tranny?

Manual tranny..... The rpm jump isn't much but it would be nice if it didn't try to correct itself when I need it to run lug down in the 300 to 400 rpm range

Yes it's normal. This is called "stall saver". The settings of this function can be changed within the chip program.

That's what I was hoping [thank you]. Looks like I need to get in touch with "Bill" and see if he will help me burn a new prom to fit my needs.

Kevin, my new CJ does not have an EGR.

Yes, they tend to rev up a bit when you unload the engine...There are some similar symptoms the EGR can cause which is why I asked. Sounds like you are on it tho! :redneck:

You're IAC is opening a bit more when it lugs down like that to try and keep it from stalling (stall saver) and when the engine unloads the IAC is closing more to bring the revs down but it doesn't do it instantly.
