Just how strong is a 700R4?

I have seen too many overbuilt 700s fail, 350 or a 400 is a far better choice as a wheeling trans.

No matter how you cut it the 700R4 is ****. A 400 would be a good move.:awesomework:

Exaggerate much?
To say that a 700R4 is bad for every off road application is ignorant. There are thousands out there that are doing just fine. However, for the application proposed by the OP, the 700 is a bad choice.

With me this is no exaggeration as the only time I would run an auto off road (th400) is in high horse power set ups, otherwise run a manual trans. The 700 I had went **** fast as did the ones in; my old K5, a buddys short bed with 388hp, Another buddys K5 with a 383, and some others I have had to help off the trail over the years. I have never seen one hold to off road even the one I saw behind a 4.3 went boom in less then 2 years. So when I say it is **** that is cause all the ones I have been around have been:awesomework:

Like anything else, there are proper applications and bad applications. I've found that TV cable adjustment is crucial to their survival. I can think of 5 guys quickly that have 700s without issues (I've had one for 5 years without any issues). These are not full size guys as I don't run a full size or run those types of trails. Most of the rigs weigh less than 5k and don't have much more than stock hp.
While your opinion is understandable given the history you've experienced, your should understand that the 700 can be a very good option when used within its capability.
