Kelly Builds Wyatt a Shaved & Narrowed 14b Rear

Wyatt that looks awsome!! Nice job You & Kelly did. One thin I noticed on the snout support, dont you need another seperation point to remove the pinion support. or am I missing something. 5 bills is a bargain to run a 14b that low.

Pat, you're correct on the pinion. I need to cut and "Piano Hinge" it. We literally ran out of time right around that point, but rather than do without the support, it got welded up.

As for $500, for the shave. Mine would be more since you have to pull the carrier, the ring gear needs turned down, and all that. But a comparable to Rob's which is drastic, just not this drastic seams like $500 for just the cut and weld in with cover would seam not too bad.

Mine's another story. Kelly acted like he may never do one that deep again because of how much work it was. TONS!!! Good thing I give good handy's.

Gotcha on the time deal. Yea you can always cut it off and modify it when you need to. I also understand Kelly saying he will never do another one as deep as yours. Sometimes you just cant justify the time involved with what someone is willing to pay.

Right on, thats cool as hell Im gay for 14B's so you know I like it !!! thumb.gif laughing1

She needs some paint so it doesnt look like a "dungeon" piece ! Your buggy is way to pretty to have a rusty ass

we can store the 60 under the ass of mine if you;d like :flipoff1:

thanks for posting teh final pics...looks really good....the ground clearance looks awesome....probably more than a 60....

on the truss, the vertical plates that cap it are a little gappy at the ends. the welds are a little undercut because I was throwing a weave into a huge gap. miles was running over to the iron worker and sheaving plates with the line marked with his finger, and I was making them solid as he walked back in with them. NOT a precision method, but it'll hold. Pat, that pinion support is funny. that flat piece is a rusty ass old piece of 3/16" that was laying there and withing 1/4" of the right length. we threw it in and made it solid. I will do many more of these, just not for free like wyatt's was thumb.gif :flipoff1:

My link geometery is exactly the same. Here is a top view of the truss. No one makes a 1" misalignment spacer to my knowledge, so I cut 8 1" ID HREW to 5/16" wide spacers with a chop saw and had Kelly weld them to work for misaligns. They aren't perfect, but they are damn close for a chopsaw, and a flapdisk to true them up.

I didn't say to him that nobody made them, I said that my supplier, RES up in KC didn't have them and couldn't that day, so we'd have to make some ourselves. I really like the MS being welded to the link tab approach, so we went that way. also, I turned out 6 of them on the lathe while he was on the chop saw. we were tag teaming it. **** like that is what ate up crazy time, but it looks like it saved him $50 :flipoff1:

Sweet Lou to the rescue. When did those come out?

Anywho, why pay for something that I can make? If we could of got them cheap thats one thing, save making them. But in all honesty this came out awesome. Now tractor stores carry 1" sleeves for, what is it, Class 3 hitches? Anywho, I got a couple of them to cut up, and then turned out I already had some 1" ID HREW at Kelly's. I guess I coulda gone bling, but would of had to pre-order. To be honest we all forgot about needing spacers until Wednesday night. DUH!

On the subject of mis-alignments... I assume I need some for my swaybar... Kelly is this an RES item I can score ??

(sorry you can PM me the answer as to not jack the thread... Wyatt does your sway-bar have the misalignments on the end links ? )

just pieces of tube turned off in the lathe, a spacer is all. it shouldn't need much misalignment at all.

Lou, where's the other quote from, the one that my name is in black and not in orange like most of the quotes. oh yeah, that said indashop and you edited it to blacksheep :flipgotcha:

good point...i just quoted the line i wanted and didn't even realize that it was 2 different posters...my bad k.....just know that i did remember someone in this thread saying that there wasnt one and then reading someone saying that they said they never said no one didn't make one....just figured it was the same....my apologies....

we need a mt dew smiley instead of all the beer..........
