So this clown that used to work for drove this Dodge 1500.
He drives like an idiot, doesn't understand that the pedals actually work when not pegged to the floor. On "Green" he'd get up as fast as he could, on "Red" slam on the brakes at the last minute. No one would ride with him because he's an idiot driver.
Well he just bitched and bitched and bitched about how much gas that Dodge guzzled, and how much it cost him, and he was going to get a small car.
Finally after months and months of him bitching he finally trades the truck for a VW GTI.
Exactly, the last thing this guy needs is a tiny sport scar to drive. Now he's not only got good throttle response, and better brakes, but now he's smaller and more maneuverable. So he turns the freeway into a slalom course.
So his insurance ends up bing more in the car, then he starts racking up tickets, then a schoolbus "runs" him off the road and he totals the little car.
Now he's well behind where he would have been had he just kept the damn truck.
Its hard to make the descision solely based on economics, those economics are like trying to pin the tail on a bucking donkey. If you could go out and hedge your fuel risk away for the next 8 years that would be something, too bad it hasn't happened yet. I'm surprised someone hasn't offered that service to the small consumer.
I'm not sure I can understand Nolen going to a 1/2ton gas truck. I like pulling something an not being at the upper bounds of my trucks capabilities when I do tow. The 1/2 tons Max trailer rating is 10.5, the 3/4ton (HD's) is 16.5. I could easily get by with a halfton gasser like Jimbro runs. My buggy and trailer weigh less than 5k. But with the 3/4ton diesel I cazn still run 80-85mph down the road and hardly know its there, and do not remotely take the MPG hit that I would with the lighter truck and gas motor. All about getting in the sweet spot and being overly capable.
Blah, blah, yada, yada, that was a diatribe, sorry fellas.
