It's the best example I've found of the Discovery's "Center Differential Lock" traction control system working.......and working very well I might add. Better than a limited slip. Worse than a locker.

My question: Who has/had a Disco I or II....and wheeled it hard? Is the TC system as good as it appears to be?

Side note: I know the Disco I's have "it" in the transmission and the Disco II's have "it" in conjunction with the ABS system.

And.....yes, I know these things (can) have some major isses (mainly electrical stuff and low QC). That input is welcome as well.

Think-----$3500 for the soccer mom's grocery getter, take the bumpers off, cut the crap out of the fender wells, slap some 33" tires on.......luxury wheeling with the rednecks.

Thats what my buddy wanted to bring out to wheel. "Dude I just bought a new Land Rover Discovery series II with all the brush guards and stuff. Ready to go punish it. Lets do this."

Then I showed him a couple pics of Reiter and he said "I think I need to buy some burlier tires first."

Then I told Money Mark about bringing this guy wheeling and he got so excited- "Do it! Do it! It will be so much fun to watch him get all ****ed off and destroy his ****!":haha: :haha: :haha:

The axles are gonna be your problem. The carriers like to crack which kills the cross pin. So figure in a couple lockers. Fronts gotta be an ARB because they dont have locking hubs.

:haha::haha:

I beat on mine... :redneck:

I LOVE Rovers as out of the box wheelers. In stock trim they're hard to beat.

FWIW, lincolnlock drove a badass Disco for a while, and drove it hard. If you're serious, he'll let you know the ins and outs

I believe they have not made the Discovery for a few years....how could he have a new one?

They quit making the DiscoveryII in 2004, now it's the little LR3.

I would suggest sliders

Don't worry about the bumpers, they're self adjusting...

And if the door takes a rock, it will still open and the window will still work :awesomework:

But you will most definitely be in comfort :D

No lockers. No guards. No $$$ spent except on tires.....Goodyear MTR's.

If I end up getting one, this vehicle will be completely expendable. (aren't they all?)

Now I just need to sell the CJ-5.

Discoweb.com I believe is the major Disco forum. I'm also on northwestoverlandsociety.org, and the admin there is a member here as well so maybe he'll pipe up, but that's another good place for Disco knowledge.

They do appear to be better as an overland/expedition vehicle than a hardcore trail rig, but they do seem to handle themselves just fine with just a little modifcation.

Why not a 93-94 FZJ80 with factory F&R e-lockers and CDL. Similar (but slightly larger) link/coil platform except it's reliable, parts and service are somewhat reasonable, the diffs are good for 37s, and you can fit 315s with a little trimming (or rubbing).

It'll still need sliders to protect the cat and rockers, but other than that it's ready to go and can be had for the same price range if you find the right deal.

Just sayin'.

I don't think it was brand new, but probably an '04. It was mainly funny because he is a total city slicker (think downtown LA) who has no wheeling experience. And I'm sure the rig was fully decked out in urban accessories like luggage racks and tinted windows and leather seats, you know all the stuff that makes hard trails seem easy.:redneck:

X2---Mark, if you can hold out for one of these--I'd do it..
