Link material an size

Then yes, I think what you said is true when comparing 7075 to mild DOM.

I could be wrong, but I think the same is true for HT chromo compared to 7075 though. (Chromo is more likely to return to straight than 7075 and also harder to bend in the first place.) Being that they are roughly the same price and the chromo is lighter, why would anyone want 7075?

i've seen failure with both 7075 solid aluminum and HT chromo. i know redneckengineered had issue with threaded inserts pulling out of the links on a ht chromo link, i've seen multiple others with the same issue. with 7075 i've seen the link bust at the ends where the threads are cut but if i'm not mistaken they had material taken off to create a hex for wrenching on. good friend of mine has 6061 lower links that are bent all the hell. he's straitened them i don't know how many times but they bend first time they see a rock.

i'm personally a fan of solid 7075. i've had great experience with them on my buggy. unless i was building a trailing arm, i doubt i would ever run anything else.

No doubt 7075 is as nice as lookin at flashemifyougotem , but after a weekend of my driving they'd be scratched to ****, I think I'm gonna ad some beef and order 2" Dom 1/2" wall, there's enough stock left to make a spare bar , if it bends it definatly won't be a big bend

Re: Re: Link material an size

Alota of the linked guys I see out on the trail weld a half inch thick "spine" on the tops of thier lower link bars.

Never seen a bent one with that spine....must work. ;D

redneck's Heretic failure was an obviously bad weld with zero penetration. I guess my point here is that we are comparing materials, not weld quality. A good weld should hold.

IIRC Heretic took care of the links and covered collateral damage from the links that broke

He also changed how he makes now as well IIRC. He plug welds them all in addition to the normal weld on the insert.

I used 2" Dom .500 wall on this rig which weighed 7,010lbs. Took a pretty good beating never any issues, had them tapped at a local machine shop
