Little Gibby's 45 MB

So I'm curious. Why not mount the orbital valve right on the firewall? Is it a clearance or lack of space issue?

Oh ya. Plus it sticks it right in the path of stuff getting thrown at it from the tires and ect. I waved all the options and the current location made the most sense.

Seems odd having a steering wheel in the rig now that does something :redneck:

Jackson is now working to pay off the debt his dad has incurred trying to get the Willy's built. Jackson is working 2 different jobs just to make ends meat and payoff the work in progress.:redneck:

Holdup is trying to get the tranny issue resolved........ I also ordered tabs for the seatbelts. Once the tranny issue is resolved I can move forward with the last of the tube work/steering then it can go home for a while :awesomework:

Are you waiting for something from me?

What do we need to do to get this project back on track? Mike, I'd call but I don't have a current number for you. Last one I had was back when this all started:hi:

Ok--after a little bit of a burnout I finally got out from under it(still a little there so I am ramping back up to my origional pace).
So here is where I am starting. I went and drug the tranny and t-case dale had dropped off. Both these damn things are HEAVY and I prefer to work smarter than harder whenever I can so I grabbed the cherry picker. So lets start with the t-case. Its a rockwell t-case and I am not real familure with them but look pretty beef and an interesting case. The case apears to be close to a 300 in the length of the cast case--but the neat aspect of the case is the rear output drops in the bottom of the case. So me being me I HATE working with grubby parts and spent a couple hours cleaning the 3" deep(lol) of crap off it.

And all clean

I found the input seal in the t-case cracked(old) so I have to replace that. But for now I went and threw the t-case onto the sm420 tranny.
gmb198.jpg

Ok for those of you who have toyed with these trannys you know how crappy they sit on a tranny jack due to how narrow they are at the base. Once you throw the t-case on you end up with a fumbling mess to keep chained on the jack. Well I work alone alot in the shop and I try to be safe whenever I can because one thing I don't want is one of my kids or wife to walk into a smooshed body..
So I have a ton of scrap angle material so I went and made a mount that fits onto the top of the jack X platform.
gmb199.jpg

gmb200.jpg

And there it sits on the jack with threaded pins--not going anyplace.
gmb201.jpg

And there the whole works sits chained to the tranny jack and its DAMN secure.

I got the tranny/t-case rolled under the rig and jacked up into place and yup--that adapter thats there certainly isn't going to work. But I was able to eyeball a few things I could only guess on.
Here is roughly where the tranny sits on the hole in the floor.

Underside

And here is an interesting thing and something I was hoping for with this t-case. Look at the pinion and output---wow. As it sits the shaft is 14" long.
gmb206.jpg

So with it sitting there I can now get some better ideas of how this needs to be. Doing some measurements I want to roll the motor forward roughly 3 1/2". This will not only help with the rear driveshaft but I can then raise the tranny about 1" higher and still maintain a good angle on the whole setup. But alot of this rides on the radiator..

Ok so I went and got the radiator mapped out. I came up with a measurement of 15" tall max(from bottom of rad to top of cap) and roughly 24" wide from tank to tank with the lower inlet on the passenger side and inlet on the drivers side(typical GM configuration). For a fan we can run an electric pusher fan since there will be room in the grill area.
But the perfect location is.

On top of the crossmember in front of the motor. To get a radaitor of those measurememnts to fit I will have to trim the area behind the grill..

damn there must be a shortage of old school parts for sale anymore? that sm 420 hangs pretty low. also I dont know what was wrong with it, but the only rockwell I ever had I replaced with an np205 cause the rockwell wouldnt go into high range, stuck in low. I had to drive it home from issaquah to covington like that in a 69 suburban. haha. Looks like you are plugging away at it.
