What do you want in a local style comp? What kinda entry fees, payouts, etc.? This is planed to be a XRRA style comp. What style course given the ovel adn banked turns?

What this stems from is we were talking to Rocky at GMP adn he is game to build a track on the old dirt track at the park. He said he needs to know it will have the competers there so he can bill it as say 20 rigs. HE didnt want to send the coin for dirt work and having the lights on if it happens to be at night for 3 rigs to show up.

This place would be the **** for a race. Old circle track, bleachers, lights, consession stand. All that really needs to be done is move some rocks in and throw up some banners.

Give us something to take back to him a couple weeks. Talks were after the XRRA finals maybe in Oct.

I would be down for it. The thing that keeps me from XRRA is that I don't wanna run a series, but their single entry fee is crazy high. I would think a $50/100 entry fee and payout to the top 3 or 5 depending on how many show. I would think you would get a lot of folks interested. I can make that time of year work and think it would be fun.

Thats what I was thinking. First it has to be fun and the people will show. Then if you can win a little money great if not you are out $100 and had a great time. Where XRRA is kinda fun and if you dont win you are out major coin.

This place has alot of stuff. The dirt track/ comp site, up top it has pavlions and a couple ponds, softball field, and camp ground. Then down next to the track it has a restraunt and bumper boats and go cart track. Not all of of it is kept up at the time but huge potential.

Keep em comming.

I wish it was closer and I would think about it. Just a comment too, the local dirt track here has a $25 - 30 entry fee for all classes except for big shows. Might help to bring more people out to try it. Not a great payout but you aren't out a lot either. Also makes it tougher to bring in the out of towners but it is a starting point. That has always been my complaint about comps is the cost to just run one event is crazy.

X2 on Matt O.To pay 3 to 5 placews you need to keep the entry 100 or more.Build it and they uh I mean we will come :dblthumb:

I always liked how EROCC paid more down the line like Pops said. I guess we need to get to figurin'. :dblthumb:

Stay tuned.

Its already been said. Keep the entry fee's reasonable and do a payout for the top 3 spots. Works for RocketCityRockcrawlers and that King of the Hill should work for other locals.

GMP is the perfect place for having "local" events. If yall can get the entry fees and payouts figured out, where competitors and locals will be interested, i think you have unlimited potential with their facilities.

i would love to be able to compete but don't have a rig built for it (also known as broke ass) but i would definitely come watch and trial ride. our club tries to ride at GMP as much as we can, so anything to help keep them open and bettering their facilities, i'm down for.

Thinik there would be any interest in a "stock" type class. Like say 35" and under tires or stock type suspension? Something like $25 to enter and winner takes all? A fun class to run in between the more capable, higher dollar rig.

Keep the ball rolling guys. Rocky has put alot of thought into this and we are tring to help with the though process to get another event at a great place.

Problem I've seen is:

Lower entry fees for a local comp brings more people but when 1 or 2 built rigs or experienced competitors show up everyone still bitches and moans about not wanting to pay. I've even seen an instance where they allowed guys to run for free just to try it and they just gave up when it got tough.

In those cases you loose the spectators by eliminating the "pros" but you loose competitors by having "pros"
then it comes down to how to determine who a "pro" is and that will get touchy

You can't please everyone.

I think a cool payout would be
1st - X dollars
low score/fast lap - X dollars
shortest distance/most breakage - X dollars
best roll - X dollars

give people an incentive to still go for it even if they don't think they can beat the pros.

I've been gladly donating my entry fees to guys like Derek West for the last 5years!

Todd, too many people cannot post because it might lead to butt hurtness. THere are lots of lurkers here and I am sure if you set it up the interested parties will be there. I will do my best and will help promote any way I can. I think jimmy at EOR said he might help out with the sponsorship and competitor raffle pieces.

if they introduced a couple classes like stock, modified, comp and/or by tire size, i think you could get interest. i'm sure there are guys with fairly capable rigs that aren't quite "rock bouncer" or comp rig status, that would have some interest. i would be interested for sure. i know i don't have anything for the woodlee's, coleworx's and comp rigs but with more comparable rigs it would be fun.

i think starting out with more competition or SE "rock bouncer" rigs and building off of that would be good. get the crowd there for the big boys and then introduce some smaller classes down the road. the smaller rigs won't draw as much spectator attention but if you can get people there and show them what you have to offer and go from there, i think you would be successful.

just my .02

I think the KOTH format is a proven winner for local comps, only problem is their buggy class price is still pretty high for non-comp guy. I think it is $150 or $200.

THey do 3 classes:

Limited (Stock Frame to 36" tires)
Limited Big (Same but no tire size limit)
Unlimited - Tube Buggies

Golden Mtn is not right down the road for me, but I will make it. It would be hella cool to do a SE Rock bouncers comp circuit at the different parks in the SE....

Let the butt hurt be and post up what you think. I know Rocky gets on here and Woodlee which Rocky works for so just toss up some stuff.

Rocky said he has no problems spending the money to get this track done but does not want to do it for the hell of it. You cant sell a rock race on just being a rock race. You got to have X number of buggys and X number stock guys and promote it that way. He is thinking more on the longturm aspect of it.

KInda like the woods race he had. Track was there all it took was alittle time. Where to build a race course he is gonna have to spend some money. There is a goood chance it will be under the lights.

It is in TN, right in the middle of a ton of fab talent. Get the EOR, Coleworx and WOD rides, throw in some guys from Hardline and the Mud Devils, post up and promote who is going to be there and you will have a huge showing. People love watchin rock bouncing rigs do their thing.

I know Stan is in...he said 90% sure the other two Braniks and his crew will be there. That's a fun group to watch. Ken Mercer is in...he puts on a show and gives his all everytime out. Anybody seen the MOROC video from the last comp? Count Kim in for sure.

This idea is barely a week old, but it's going to be an awesome time. A good mix of local heroes, some good hearted rock racers that give their all everytime out, and FANS, and this will be just a freaking good time.

Working on sponsors now...

the KOTH setup woks great for breaking up the classes

you end up with classes that no one biches about and promotes fair comp.

if you guys build it count me in ill show for the first one atleast

Sounds like youn's bout got it all worked out, start building.different classes would work good,it gives everyone a chance to play. Most times the stock class puts on more of a show.I know AC will be there he just wants to race,I heard that somewhere before.Be sure to set dates to work out with other events and more will show up.We're behind any events in the southeast.Maybe someday we'll be running high dollar prerunners through the woods.
