Yep. I wish he would have asked - he even works in a county that requires emissions.
Can you just turn the DTC off in HP Tuners? Will it not show up on the obd2 smog check?

That's my understanding yes.
You can turn the checks off and the DTC will never get triggered.

It's my belief that an emission place will only check if your DTCs are active or not, but I haven't tested my own car to confirm.
