Matt's Cheerleader Jeep buildup thread...

Told ya :kissmyass:

Yep. I kinda had that in the back of my mind all along... they were just right with no top and very little gear in the back... soon as I loaded it down with all my camping stuff, spare tire, etc and put the hard top and the doors back on... woo, I-90 was an interesting ride with some wind.

Those big goofy shackles suck too, I always run 'em into stuff in the front.

Plans for this winter:

Waggy springs in front, steering box moved forward, XJ springs in rear, lengthened rear driveline, tank moved up into the "bed", and tube tube tube... boatside rockers, tube fenders up front tied into a grill hoop tied into the cage tied into the frame. New seats with 4pt. harnesses as well. I might actually put a winch on it too. :redneck:

I'm putting off changing the t-case config around until I can drop the coin on a D300. I might throw some 4:1's and a beefier chain in the 231 in the mean time, not sure yet.

How much tube did you use for your antiwrap bar? I guess I wont be using extra 1.5x.120 wall tube for it cause no one makes inserts for that size, but its probably for the best.

I don't have an exact measurement... I pretty much used up what was left from when I built my steering. 1.5" .250 wall is what I used.

You can get inserts for 1.5x.120, I got some from S&N. I used .120 wall for the upper piece, but the lower one is .250 wall. I didn't want it bending on rocks.

Hey Matt, quick question, sorry if you already posted this info but...

what brake lines are you running in the front?

I'm running lines made for a '73 chevy 4x4 truck... but that's because I had them leftover from my XJ... they have different caliper-side ends than what you need for the D30 though.

heh hum.....whats up with this! isn't it cold over there with nothing but building stuf int he shop to do?:D

Bah! :flipoff:

I need to get a heater in my new garage and then I'll be ready to rock and roll. Bought a nice chopsaw from a friend, hoping to get a tubing notcher maybe for christmas... but we'll see.

No pictures to speak of, but it's on jackstands in the garage, so some work should get done pretty soon here.

Things to do:
Re-do rear pinion angle and fix leaky pinion seal
Plumb a line lock or two into the braking system
Replace all four stock YJ leafs with the RE1444's and a pair of 5 leaf 2" 4wd hardware springs I got from boxboy.
Ditch really goofy long shackles that came on the jeep in favor of more reasonable length ones
Build cage (duh) and mount seats and harnesses
Build something to protect what's left of the rocker panels (got a start on this already).
Re-do anti-wrap bar mount

Pictures and progress update on Sunday night.

You gonna do shacke reverse??

Nah, too much work right now... I'm not going to dive into something like that until later on down the road, I want to wheel this summer. The springs I've got will bolt right in and be much better than the stock YJ springs, that's good enough for now. :D

Alright, made a little progress.

Saturday afternoon got the old leafs out after much cussing and torching due to the original OEM bolts being siezed in the bushing:

Then Ryan and Ray came over to help out :haha::

Front finished, including drilling the leafs to use a 7/16" grade 8 bolt for the center pin:

This morning the old rears got the axe, but I also spent time farting around with the thing because I think the fuel pump went out. Has spark now and no fuel:

Sooo... being the industrious guy I am, I went ahead and dropped the tank. I had a fuel cell in my future plans, but now's as good a time as any:

Interior's all gone, ordering tube this week. :awesomework:
