NV4500 would be nice, granny gear, easy to shift, overdrive. But very long for a flatfender.

465's aren't too bad at all especially in a fatty where the shift handle is going to end up getting shortened. I happen to have an 85-87 32 spline 4x4 with hydraulic bellhousing 465 sitting in my way I'd let go cheap.

Are you stuck on a manual? Auto's are much better for wheeling IMO, next rig will definitely have an auto.

Not at all. Actually I thought about a 6 speed auto but length is an issue.
