My Bus,,, My Bus,,, My Bus...

Pretty simple, you need 3 things to make it an RV... Shitter, cooker and sleeper... Doesn't have to be nice, just functional...

Take it to WSP to get inspected($65), pay for the title to be switched from commercial bus to RV($125)...

That's after you've already titled it in your name...

It made since to me, I can't afford to buy an RV that has a diesel and the frame to handle towing... And didn't want to deal with a truck and camper... I don't need all the "fluff" that's put into the store bought ones... I want it simple and functional...

EDIT::: Oh yeah, I can build ****...:redneck:

Was it actually this simple? I've heard horror stories, then I've heard stories where it was cake. I'm about to go down this road, except with a class 8 truck

Bus looks

very cool bus/motorhome. I was wondering that all the steel tubing you used does that weight more or the same as all the seats and lift ramp you took out. I'm sure it weighs a little more. this just curiousity on my part and was just wondering.

Figured I'd throw up some pics of the progress... Just about have everything done as far as the propane, water and electrical systems... Still have a lot of finish work left, but it's come a long way...

As far as the weight, you'd be surprised...

Based on the numbers that engineers use when designing, the average weight of a commercial 2x4 is 1.28 lbs per foot... A 2x2 weighs 0.64...

I'm using .065 wall 1x1 steel tube, that weighs .827 lbs per foot...

So, it's considerably less weight that a 2x4 and a little heavier than a 2x2...

The diamond plate used on the inside is aluminum, way lighter than most other materials...

I can carry the galley or fridge side framing with one hand... It's pretty light compared to wood framing... I've done a metric **** ton of wood framing through out the years...

I updated the cost total in the first post... I'm sure there's at least $100-$200 in stuff that I've overlooked and I'll keep updating as needed...

There's no way I could have done this without the donated materials and RV stuff from several members on here... I can't thank you guys enough...

The other day I was at Lentz RV on Mt Hwy, I stop in there to wander around and get ideas... The cost of all the stuff is insane... Anyone considering building a bus or toterhome would be miles ahead by purchasing a cheap RV to strip...

Gonna get some more coffee in me and head out to the bus for another day of madness...

i see some familiar parts!!

keep up the good work!!

I can't remember.. were you going to be adding a roof AC unit to that or not??

Lents is pricey but he has some strange hard to find ****. Theres alot of usefull stuff in there. Lots of trailer seervice parts too.

Yeah, they have a crazy amount of stuff... Even though it's pricey, if you can't find it anywhere else they probably have it...

I'll be adding one eventually, not sure if it'll be a roof unit or a small window shaker... It all depends on what I find for cheap...

well then..

we may have to speak...

I picked one up for $100, was going to put on top of my RV, but the RV is selling to a friend and they don't want one on it.

it blows cold...

Sounds good...

I'm assuming it's not a multi vent unit like the one in the 5th wheel...

I've got the two roof exits and thought about pulling one and installing an AC unit in the hole...

Finishing up the last of the foam insulation on the exterior walls... This is in front of the fridge where the passenger seat will eventually go...

Did a little work last night on the bedroom area... Almost done welding up the framing for the upper storage and framed in the bed platform... Installed the foam insulation on the back walls, still need to treat the osb with carpet and install them... Should be nice and cozy back there...

NOPE.. not a multi vent

it fit in the standard hole of a roof vent, and all the controls are on the unit..

it is a duo-therm model..

Yeah I need to swing by and take a look at the AC...

Got the galley upper cabinet welded up, needs paint, plywood bottoms and aluminum diamond plate doors... The wall separating the galley and head got the white vinyl treatment... Water pump and t stat panel installed... Diamond plate behind stove needs trimmed then installed...
