Okay.. so here's my current setup... Low-steer, w/ a toothpick tie-rod, slow single-ended ram, and fittings that are begging to get broke off and leave me drunk and stranded one night..

Other problems.. Resi. is too small and dumps fluid everytime I get on a speed bump... Limited space, so there's no room to increase size on stock Resi...

Solutions???
Is there anyway to run a remote resorvoir and keep my stock pump, or do i need to go w/ a full PSC pump and res.??

And now.. I want to go w/ a double ended Ram to get rid of that tie-rod, but my springs limit putting normal hi-steer arm on...
And i'm not familiar w/ these ford Knuckles.. Do I have to swap to the chevy flat tops to do hi-steer, and if so can I keep the rest of my ford outers...??
So the Ram would have to be in the stock position or WAY high, then i'd have to do an oil-pan swap... Which isn't a problem, if that's what i need to do...
What kind of armor might work if I keep it under the springs???/

Any help is greatly appreciated guys.. Thanks, Jon

ErikB on PBB has had this setup for years and is putting it on his new 4Runner he is building. Low steer, beefy tie rod, and a ram with the fitting pointing UP :flipoff1:

He has TONS of tech on his page. One of the rare few that have sites anymore. http://home.4x4wire.com/erik/

whats the fitting on the top of the pump look like. is it like a sag pump where its a round piece that the cap goes into? if so, I run a piece of radiator hose off that up to another small resi and weld a piece of 1.5 or 1.75 (whatever size your stock neck is) to the bottom of the new little resi. the rad hose connects them and add capacity. both big booty judy and the vulvado that this on theirs that I did, and both work well. thumb.gif

As you can see in the supplied photo I am in the process of caculating the best method for your setup. thumb.gif

That's the Prob w/ the Taco 4cyl setup.. There's just no room to go up.. Cap is about 2 inches from the hood... So it would either have to expand straight out of the back of the Res. or be relocated to a remote location...

And yes, My original design was to do Beefy tie-rod and put the Ram behind, thus being protected... But at full Lock there just isn't enough room between the tie-rod and the housing...

And Erik is running Hydro-assist.. I'm full Hydro... Would that small Ram be able to handle the load solely???

But Like P said.. If someone knows where I can put my hands on a HP60 for a good deal I may just go that route....

does the tre come up from the bottom with the nut on top right now or vise versa? I say drill, heims, .250 wall rod and cylinder on top of it off a 1/4" plate cover between the springs so that at full extension it is right by the left spring. what do you need, 8" ram?

I've already drilled my knuckles and am Running 3/4 heims... and it's a 2 in x 8 in
But that's the realistic, economical thing to do... Take my Ram apart flip the one fitting up.. cap current hole on stationary end and find new 90 fitting.
Run a Tie-rod Dammitt- W/ some armor for the Ram bonded to it....

But a question about that....
Can't flip the ram 180 because fitting would be in back.. Clearance issue
On the end of the Ram that the rod comes out of I can just take my tie bolts out and Flip that end putting fitting on top...
But on the stationary end... The fitting would have to either go front or back... But there is a secondary hole that is capped that would work perfect.. But it seemes to be a bit smaller that the existing hole i'm using now... Could I just cap the one i'm currently using and find the appropriate fitting for the new hole, or would it cause a pressure devience resulting in funky steering???

won't affect pressure and will have little effect on flow. assuming its a 1/2" line you have and you're going to a 3/8" line. I would weld a hoop that extends forward on your axle tube right below the tie rod. I do this on most all fronts I do. it is normally a place to put the DE ram, but it works great as a skid/bump. I do one that welds to the spot where the C meets the tube and goes forward adn in at a 45* until its clear of the tie rod, then turn parallel to the axle tube. put another one up and forward off that one for skiding effect.
don't know if you can see it here

I realize there's a DE ram on that one, but that skid works for a SE one too. I love being able to ram whatever the fawk I want with my front now.

Alright.. Thanks a ton for the help man...

Sooo.. get my fitting to the top.. Overkill tierod...
And a DOM Blacksheep Bull Bar :flipoff1:

Can anyone else hear it "Paging master.. I mean Mr. Beaty"
P.. Hurry the hell up w/ that pile so you can work on my junk....

yea.. After looking at it. Tie-rod may be too low to get a hoop welded to the housing and clear the tie-rod w/o hanging down below the housing... But i'll figure something out.. really just need to get the fittings protected and a beefier tie-rod and i'm good... I'll just adjust the "clearance" out of the rod when i pretzle it ;D

To make things easy for you. Why don't you just cut off the mount in the center of the housing and turn the ram up a 1/4 of a turn, this would put your fittings on the top wouldn't it? dunno

You must be the voice of reason

Kelly took these shortly after volunteering with the 'Sheep for the Valdez cleanup.
As you can see he got into some stuff that went over the axle tube but not enough to coat the rest of the beast. :flipoff1:

Yea, that would work, but i'm working w. limited space, trying to keep the Ram as close to the housing as possible... And my mount lies half on the Cast pumpkin and half on the tube.. So strength may be an issue w/ an L shaped bracket and really no room for a sufficient gusset.. But if you want to take a look at it i'll bring her on down...
