• Help Support Hardline Crawlers :

need third maybe fourth opinion on this D60pattern

Judging by the pics, I'd pull at least .005" out, maybe .010", and go from there...at least that way if it comes too far out, you know it's somewhere in between the setup in there now, and -.010"... Good Luck!!!:awesomework:

haha once again your reading skills fail you misserable:haha::fawkdancesmiley:

i have had .005 and .010 less in and the pattern seamed like to was way to close the face, so i am going to put it back to what i origanally set it up with. which is what the book reccamended since both new and old R&P said +2 right now there is a total shim thickness of .064 i origanly started with .061

fawk who no well see what happens:squirrel:

when you say middle of the gear... face to flanke, or heal to toe?

ya i probably could do that:awesomework: see ya tonight:beer:

re-read my post on reading the pattern

reread your post... okay did that.. all you say is that it is to deep, to close to the centerline of the ring gear... i already no this, from what i have read the heal to toe isn't that important what is those is the face to flank...

The shape of the pattern is important, its a good indicator of whats going on with your pinion depth. I said nothing about the centerline of the ring gear. Pull ten thou out and post of a pic of the pattern and we can go from there.

right you didn't say it was to close to the centerline of the ring gear.. you said it was to deep...both mean the same thing:;...

anyways more pics tonight

Back to original shims...

That pattern looks like death...:booo: Maybe the 6:17's are just prone to an odd pattern, or got a bad gearset??? Looks like on the drive side, the pinion's not deep enough & the coast side it's too deep...:eeek:

Here's a pattern of the 4:27's I set up yesterday; Drive side's perfect, while the coast side isn't as nice as I'd like, but still has full contact on the tooth...

If you look closely at the factory lap-in signature markings, the patterns almost mimic them...

yeah im tending to agree, these are spicer gears and i usually have the best luck with spicer over aftermarket gears. weve have been all over the range of pinon depth and this is about the best we have gotten so far.

BL @ .007"

Maybe send 'em in for another set??? The ones I did are yukons---With the exception of getting a 'test' set of gears once, have had good luck with 'em...But yes, Spicer gears usually set up nicely, as do richmonds---I've actually had good success with the few Sierra sets...
