Non-zoot Hydraulic Steering rams (full time)

Great info More Questions?

OK so if you have an 8" ram and only need 7" of that travel do you have to mount it exactly centered on the travel, leaving 1/2" travel on each end. or can you center the steering wheel to the travel where its at?:looser:

Which ever way you do it I would just make sure to limit the travel of the ram. If it needs 7" then use a spacer or spacers to make it 7" travel.

yeah i was gonna do that, i have it all mounted the way it fits best but does not use the first inch of ram just the last seven. tucked up nice and tight seems to move freely back and forth with no bind. just didnt want to make the spacer and fully weld everything if it needed to be centered.

The ram doesn't need to be centered on the vehicle if that's what you're asking.

no not centered on the vehicle centered on the stroke?

like: 1/2"-7"-1/2" or 7"-1" ?

1" being the not used portion at the very end of ram travel.

3" bore would take all week to turn lock to lock, and would probly destroy something the first time you got it bound up.

With 1500 psi hydraulic pressure, you'd get this many pounds of force at the ram:

2": 4700
3": 10600
I have 3" bore 9" stroke(limited to 8") and run a highzoot PSC pump turns fairly fast.........in the rear I have 2.5" x 8" and it is a bit weak for my liking

No it doesn't matter. Once you put stops in the ram you will then be centered on the stroke.

kinda what i figured and then you would just time the orbit to the center of your travel with the steering wheel.

getting closer each day i get to work on it.:;

what to make the spacer out of? i have few types of metal. some delrin/nylon block...do they sell them already made? i need exactly 1".
