NP203 doubler on its side?

Hey all,
So, my rig is going to be running an NP203 doubler with an Atlas 2. I'm trying to keep the belly pretty flat. The NP203 hangs down significantly further when indexed normally. Is there any reason why I could not rotate it 90° counterclockwise? That would put the shifting mechanism at the 12 o'clock position. Specifically, would it oil itself properly in that position?

I thinking that I will drill and tap the case in positions that would allow installation of a sight tube, to check fluid level. My thought would be to fill it to about 1/3 to 3/8 the way up the gears, and they should sling oil everything well, correct? Any issues that you guys are aware of clocking it this way?

It's a pretty simple setup. It's the range box side of an NP203 with the Advanced Adapters doubler kit. 27 spline input shaft and Advanced Adapters TH-350 adapter. The Atlas 2 case has a 10 spline input shaft to match the output shaft of the NP203. Going to run a JB Custom Fabrication triple stick shifter setup. The NP203 has a 1:1 high range, neutral, and essentially 2:1 low range reduction. The Atlas 2 has 4.3:1 low range, so roughly 8.6:1 reduction in low/low. Running 42" tires and 5.38:1 gears.

I had this doubler sandwiched between an NP435 4 speed with 6.68:1 1st gear and a 4:1 Dana 300, with 4.88:1 gears and 37's, giving a crawl ratio of 261:1. Was amazing in technical rocks. The new rig won't be quite as low with the TH-350, but should feel nearly as low with the nature of an automatic.

That's a cool setup and hadn't considered the range box aspect of things.
