Not wanting to start a auto vs. manual debate, but I might have what I feel is a deal on a NV4500, am running a 700r4 right now, but I feel if I go with teh manual, then I'll prolly never have to replace it....Not in my lifetime.

What are the pros/cons?

What about the NV3500/3550? besides the 100 pounds less it weighs?

Any other suggestions?

If I had a chance to re-do it--I would have gone with an nv4500 vs. the np465 I have now and for these reasons---the ratio split between gears is much better on the 4500 and you can **** the 4500 a hella faster.

:wtf: ......:stirpot: Couldn't resist.

Thanks for the response.

If it is for a buggy or trail only rig there is no need for it

Now if it is a DD plus trail rig you will love it :awesomework:

IIRC the 3550 only has like a 300ish max ft lb rating... if that's any concern.

I read that as well, I'm runnin an '02 4.3, not a real torque monster, but I don't want to be pushin the edge of capacity cos that means it'll wear out faster.....reliability is huge here.

I will take it off your hands, it would be a great replacement for the AX15 I have now.:redneck:

I have one and love it. You will never break it. And as mine is a dodge and fully synchro you can put it in gear from a stop without a clutch. Including reverse.

but, It weighs a ton and is HUGE and takes over a gallon of special synthetic gear oil for each refill. And they are expensive to buy.

Thats part of what I meant about being worth it. Mine is a 96 GM 4x4 model, fully rebuilt by a reputable local trans shop. It was rebuilt cos the guy I'm buyin it from got it with no history and didn't want to take any chances. ??

not all NV4500's are the same... chevy's have smaller parts then the dodges.

92-93 Chevy's had a lower 1st gear, and Dodge had 2 versions, a normal version with 23 spline output and an HD version with 28 spline output I believe, the Chevy's all came with the 28 spline output. From what I understand all the rest of the compnants are the same cept the inputs shafts which are only different due to length. I could be wrong but thats what I gathered so far.

Besides I'm running an '02 4.3 in a Toy, so it's not like I'm going to be stressing this thing....:redneck:
