I have a 2x8 ram on the way. So now I'm in the market for an OV. What am I looking for? I want about 3-4 turns lock to lock. What specs on the valve should I be shopping for?

I have a steering valve puchasd from S&N that was matched with a 8" ram....worked great with the 8" ram. I will sell it so I can purchase a orbital valve that will work better with my 12" ram.

You will need an open center, non load reactive, steering valve. With a 2x8 ram somewhere around 160cc per/rev. will be perfect for your requirements. I like a valve with around 200cc per/rev so I have rally car type steering. The orbital S&N sells has to be around 125cc per/rev. It's a little small for a 2x8 in my opinion. Just remember open center. Load reactive valves will work fine but objects pushing against the steering will be felt in the steering wheel.

Look up charlynn, danfoss, steering valve on the ebays.

i can wait a little while if the price is right.

What do you guys have and how much??

$300

It is the valve S&N uses in most of their buggys....same as Porters rig(you have driven that and kows how it feels)

It looks like the valve I have may be the fastest one commonly available. If this is the case I won't sell it as I only want one that is faster....I'm still trying to confirm what I have.

Whats the displacement on the valve you have? I find it hard to believe it is the fastest one as there are ridiculously big valves out there. If you mean its the biggest one a normal PS pump can keep up with then I would believe that.

I'm still trying to varify what I have. My steering is 5 turns lock to lock so if I do the math it works out to be the fastest valve that's sold at like poly performance or PSC....
I'm still not sure, I'm working on it.

Something is off on your math. If your cylinders are 2x8x.75 each, a 9.7 cu. in/rev valve would give you 4.75 turns lock to lock. A 12.0 would be 3.87 turns and a 15 would be 3.1 turns. This valve would give you 1 turn lock to lock.

Yeah you're right. It's either a 7.5 C.I. or 9.6 C.I....
My rams are 2"x7" with a 5/8" shaft.

Hijack...

This might be a stupid question, but can you use a ram that was used for hydro assist for full hydro by just changing the other needed parts???

Or, when I'm ready to go full hydro do I just sell all the hydro assist stuff and start over???
