Ok boys. I own an 82 Toyota Pickup SR5. I have been having serious problems with my truck overheating.. It seems like it only does it when im driving at lower speeds and around town. While at freeway speeds it seems to stay at the right temp.

I have changed my thermostat twice and just replaced the water pump. tomorrow i am flushng the whole system in hopes to try and fix it.

Any suggestions guys.. Could really use an expert

i dont know yotas at all but do u have a fan shroud in that pig when my fan broke and took my shroud out at like idle or slow driving it was like pegging out? just an idea

Fan clutch or plugged radiator. run it hot, turn the motor off an carefully put your hand in the middle of your rad. if its cool, that thing is plugged--common on the older toys(mine did it years ago).. flushing it will do you no go good if it is..

ive heard the fan clutch theory but i will check the hand temp tomorrow. how is that fixed... will i have to get the radiator rodded? or get a new one?

Air pocket?

When it gets hot you have little or no water in the cooling system more than likely. No water running through the heater core=no heat.

been told that once or twice to.. i cant get rid of that by running the truck with the radiator cap off until the tstat opens right?

Make sure you have the heater control on hot also so the coolant will fill it too

ok i replaced my clutch fan and got a big ass bubble out of my radiator. my heater still goes out and it likes to overheat still.. i found a cool spot on the drivers side of the radiator..

whats next?

Your radiator is clogged. It is cool because no (hot) water is flowing thru it. This clog is preventing all the entire system from circulating cool water back thru the engine, hence cooling it. Buy a new radiator, problem solved.
