So since my air tank finally gave up the ghost--fractured at the bottom and I am pretty sure it was due to my accident at the hammerz. but has anybody built an air tank out of plastic or pvc before and had it hold up?

theroretically you shouldnt use pvc for shop air.. but I know many who have.
tanks are cheap

Due to temp changes or blow up pressures? I am only talking 100psi. But the tank would have to be built to fit the rig and down under the rig too--time to start removing items off the fender wells..

Because unlike the steel tank that rather gently let go the Plastic tank will catastrophically fail sending plastic shrapnel flying. No big thing weight wise except that it will be sharp and slice through you or...
In cold weather it will be worse.
I have seen a 2" Schd.80 pipe blow chunks through 5/8 Sheetrock and on the bay side put a sliver about a quarter inch into the side wall of a tire...
If you can find a DOT certified tank that is plastic go for it.
If not...

Just my aughttwo...

Ditch the firewall and fenders allready. You know its just a matter of time :flipoff:

Crash I wouldn't do it unless you can find a semi truck type air tank in plastic. Its not worth the risk. PVC with one little hit or twist could cause **** to go flying.

Go aluminum, or check out all the fancy bling air bag tanks they sell. or better yet get an old NOS style bottle and paint it blue so you look cool. COuple of fittings and solenoids so you can purge it :looser:

Fenders will stay for now--internal stuff will be leaving--pass side is dead anyways... But I just might keep it till I can get a YJ tub/frame and just build a new rig next year...

you just pullin out inner fenders? why

You havent seen my passenger inner fender--have ya :haha:

Like I say I have ideas rolling around my head with no time to do anything with them--soon though.

And pook--I won't take it that far--I will do another rig..

yup--After working heavily with both models for a # of years I have come to the conclusion I much prefer the jeep tub due to it being simetrical(sp)--plus I like the body lines alot more...

some people are just a bit slower than others:redneck: But then again I wheeled a full size blazer for several years then a LC before I seen the light:cheer: Its all good:awesomework:

Your best bet for a plastic tubing is ABS its the what they use in waste pipe. If your talking about 1 1/2, 2, 3,4, inches.. If your talking smaller say 1/2,34,1,2, ches CPVC.. I bought an 11 gallon air tank from home depot for 35$ with the little tire fill adapter and everything (the cheapo comressor style)..
