Alright guys this is what i got....

1990 toyota 4runner with a 3.0 3vze

I recently pulled the motor and had the block bord and valve job done on the heads along with milling the heads and block. I got the master rebuild kit and put everything together myself other than the valves. I finally finished putting it all together and when i went to start it, i can hear cylinders firing a couple of times and its really shakey but it wont stay running for longer than a few seconds. My guess is that its either a timing or a fuel issue but i have no idea. I took the distributor off and made sure that i wasnt lined up wrong but i turned it 180 and it was worse. PLEASE HELP!

Thanks

I'm thinking timing.....did you line up BOTH cams before you put the timing belt on?

I would start with thw easy stuff first.
1) make sure plug wirees are in the right order
2) dist. might be just to far advanced or retarded
3) make sure all sensors are plugged in
4) is there gas in the truck?
give that a try (if you haven't already) and see what happens

this is my first rebuild. I didnt touch the valves the machinist did all that all i did was put it back together

im willing to pay if someone wants to come help me out im going crazy its all ive been doing the last couple weeks, non stop wrenchin

Where are you at? Do you have all the vaccum lines hooked up right? What noise does it make? Is there any smoke?

I live in Shoreline. Im pretty sure i have all the vacuum lines hooked up right from pictures and diagrams i found . There is no smoke but has kinda a fant smell i think its just from the new engine never getting ran! Sometimes it has a psssss ing noise

Well i would double check the lines. I would come over and help tonight but I am at my wifes christmas party.

When it does run it quits running like it ran out of gas or just stops. When you did the timing did and to rotaited 180 then the timing could be off. I do beleive that you need at number 1 when you are at top dead center for the timing to be right. What book are you going off of?

yea it quits like it runs out of gas and im pretty sure i did the timing belt right i lined the cams up with the mark on the timing cover and made shure the number one piston was at dead center before putting the heads on and then the pully i made sure that mark was lined up with that cover. To bad you have to stay at the christmas party. When would you be able to help me out?

I also have this hose.......I have no idea where it goes?

and the pass. valve cover has that hole in it which i think goes to the pass. side throttle body but im not sure because i dont have that hose.

I would not be able to help today. Tomorrow I could. Do you have any fuel leaks under the intake? I had a oring split on a injector when i did mine. Do you know it you are getting fuel pressure? Did you try disconnecting the battery and wait 5 min and try to start? Have you checked for codes?

Alright tomorrow works! I dont think i have any fuel leaks but i havent really looked under the intake. Im not sure if im getting fuel pressure but i know i didnt have the cold start injector tight and it sprayed fuel everywhere. I dont have a way to check the codes but when it is kinda running the check engine light and the battery light flash untill it dies its like is missing alot!

After seeing that line i am pretty sure that you have a vaccum problem. I cannot think of where that hose goes right now. Whenever I get home I could check.
