project 80 Proof

So Ive been looking for a 1st gen toy for a couple weeks and found one close to home so i checked it out and figured it was a good start for a wheeler. Its an 1980 toyota 4x4 with about 5" lift and some 33's, bobbed bed, stock gears and a 20r with a blown headgasket.

The plans for this build is to keep it a cheap wheeler while still being able to drive it on the road during the winter and to go camping and hunting with.

Trying to get everything done before memorial day to go wheeling. i have 2 grand for this thing so any suggestions would be great on what i should add or fix on the truck.

I started replacing the headgasket tonight and im going to take the head to the machine shop to deck it then it should go back together next week.

Here are some pics of what it looks like now

Jays got my old sliders off my 82 still lying around, im sure you could have um. :awesomework:

Ill ask him about them but he's pretty cheap so he'll want money for them probably and im trying to decide if I should use the tube bed off that truck too. Its about 2 inches shorter then the bobbed bed thats on it now. But im more worried about getting the headgasket done so it will run then driving it down to work checking out the brakes and running gear more.

git r done lets see what project he starts after this one is 50 percent done
chain of evolution

Well I parted out the 2nd gen and bought this truck so I can have a truck to wheel and DD if needed.

This one will fit nicely on our trails. Nice and small like a NW crawler should be. Just don't go too big on the tires. The push pull steering should last atleast a few missions. I have an aftermarket J arm (drag link) i'll throw in for the cause. Finish this thing and lets go wheelin!

Well I finished getting the head and everything off tonight and im taking it to the machine shop tomorrow to get it cleaned and decked to make sure its not warped. The Valves and everything look really good so thats good news for me and same with the pistons and cylanders from what I could see. Took a couple pics but it was hard when my hands were covered in oil and grease.
