Propane tank brackets a little too tight

Any suggestion on how to loosen up the bracket while installing/removing tanks? The brackets are too tight of a fit for the awkward angle I have to work with.

Just looking for suggestions and maybe pics from anyone who may have encountered this before. Thanks

Pictures of set up? Mine is a complete pain in the ass too. I have to get it started, knock it to the side until it lines up, while putting pressure on it. Then, voila, it pops into place. So, no sir on the how to fix it, just that I deal with it too.

You must have a weird one .. I think most, as well as mine the latch thing screws in and out. Hold on dammit. I'll take a pic. I don't know how to explain it.

You just unscrew the latch 1 turn at a time until it's not too tight????

Ok... to clarify, it latches and holds just fine. When it's open, and if a want to swap a tank, the amount of force to remove or swap in another tank seems a bit much.

Another question: do you guys on propane run with one tank or two on your rig? One and swap if necessary or two and don't worry about it throughout the day? I was going to run two, but now that I'm looking I mostly see only 1...

If you have a 6 or 8 cylinder engine bring two. Most 4 cylinders can go a full day or more on a tank. That being said, I am going to be carrying a second tank with me and my 4 cylinders of fury from now on if I plan on riding hard for a full day. Worst case scenario, someone else may need it. I can think of 7-8 times where someone is out and having to run back to the truck can be very inconvenient.

Bend the arm open some next time you take the tank out. From what your describing I think that's your problem.

The number of tanks can definitely depend on the motor you're running but if you can fit 2 tanks in easily I wouldn't definitely do that.

Two tanks. Don't be that guy on the trail, that runs out. T them together and only run one open at a time. That way you can keep track of how much you have.

I cut two brackets in half and added a spacer. It takes way less room and I can build around them and on top of them because the tanks roll in from the rear. No lifting.

Incase your wondering who they are referring to , I believe I'm "that guy". Dammit.. Lately I have learned that i have been changin tanks way to soon. Leavin a couple gallons in tank.. Didn't wanna run out on the side of a cliff.. Have done it before. Not fun. I think it's Ben bone that has 2 tanks, with a Y in his lines. So one runs out he turns a valve and the other is ready. Or ya could run a Y and turn Em both on and run all day I guess. Could be wrong tho. I didn't have room for 2 tanks to lay down in floor until recently.. Have I ever told y'all how bad I hate propane? FAWK. Wat a pain in the balls

I'm going to borrow the above design. Should also free up some space since the tanks will be able to touch. Thanks @Eddyj for the pics!

You hate propane? You should try my last carburetor setup... that sucked. I wanted to build a junkyard TBI with GM parts, but I found too a good deal on the propane kit.

Dang Kush.. Paranoid much? You always feel like people are talking about you?
I would suggest mounting them in a way in which you can reach valves from driver seat. I have to unbuckle but I can reach behind me and switch tanks. Or I run the one farther away. That way if I run out on a hill I just pop open second tank.
Run two tanks y together. Open one at a time. Then when you go back to camp just switch the empty.

I ended up combining the 4 brackets since I didn't have any flat stock matching the original brackets.

I originally stacked them, but didn't like how close the upper tank would have been to my head...

Now that they are as low as I can get them, i'm going to make some sort of shelf to mount the storage box and a cooler. Not sure how I'm going to do that just yet since it will also need to be easily removable to swap tanks, so if anyone has has any ideas or suggestions, I'm all ears.

Looks good to me. Cage looks cook also... Eddy forgot to mention be welded his with full tanks In it.. Hope you didn't.. That's a clean way to do it. One thing I like bout ole eddy, he makes due with what he has, as do i.. Oh and then there's the zip tie thing. Yep , I'm a fan of a good quality zip tie. FAWK I started rambling again.
