Regarding licensing. How does this even work? The vin plate is right there on the dash. Does one just pry off the old one and find a way to put it on the "new cab"? There's always the door plate too. What's the scoop on these kind of swaps? I don't need to do one. But, it'd be good to know.

I was always under the impression that the title to a truck went with the cab itself... but I would call or stop in to your local licensing agency and grill them about it and see what they say. I'm sure it's not the first time someone's asked them about that type of thing.

Ok, I'll do that. Just browsing around on some of the other boards and craigslist, I see people parting trucks out including the cab. Always wondered about how people did that. Wanted to also see if anyone here has done that as well.

if both rigs are in your name or if there not, suggest getting them in your name. Carry with you the title for the old cab and new cab. That way it shows vins for your old truck frame and vins for the new cab.

You can have it inspected in the state of washington after the swap. You have to set an appointment a month or so out and then you end up having a vehicle with a salvage title (which really doesn't matter). I did it with a NIssan pickup about 10 years ago and the state police put stickers over the vin plates on the cab. Save all receipts, etc....

I'm actually going to be doing a cab swap in the near future. I'm putting a 91 runner body onto a 89 reg. cab pickup frame. The biggest problem I have right now is that there is a lien on the 91 runner so there is no title. My 89 already has a salvage title so I'm not sure what I'm going to do just yet...
