Question for anyone with Corbeau XP seats.

PS: For future searches since Corbeau doesn't list it, my Ultra's have a seat to shoulder slot measurement of 22" & seat to headrest top is 31".

XP's are the same measuring from the seat cushion, but for some reason I feel like I have more seat behind my head than I do when I sit in ultras.

That's exactly how I measured mine, with the tape resting against the seat. That cushion is definitely a lot thicker then, so I see why you sit higher up using the same mounts. They're claim of the Ultra having the same seat height as the XP appears to be bogus.
XP having a 22"-24" shoulder slot is an improvement, but looks like for me at least swapping to the XP would be a big mistake & just take up more headroom. I'll definitely scratch this one off the list then. Thanks for the replies everyone!

Something I've found really helpful in picking seats is actually going and sitting in a set before I make a decision. Wide Open Design has just about every PRP seat made in their showroom for you to try. It's really nice.

100% agree with that.

I tried the Corbeau XP in my rig and ended up not getting those because of the seat back angle. They are make you sit way more "upright" than what I wanted. The rest is badass though.

I ended up with some extra tall PRPs Comp Pros.

I've confirmed this today with PRP. Keep in mind that the Podium cushion is 1" thinner than the Comp Elite cushion so this will change the shoulder slot & headrest height depending on what direction you go. This also means the GT3 seat cushion is swappable as well. Each one is slightly different than the other.

I like the split front of the Podium cushion. This lets you remove the cushion without fishing the 5th belt thru and should keep water/dirt out of it.

I also called about the GT3 cushion and Jonathan said it measured the same thickness as the Podium.

For those curious of what the underside of a PRP utv seat looks like, here ya go. GT/SE in this pic.

I have a whole new perspective now. Not only of why/how my setup was wrong but what I need to be looking for as well.

I was removing wallpaper in the bathroom & thought it would make a good backdrop to measure what I actually am & not what I think. So I grabbed a pen, sat against the wall & made my marks. A little tricky by yourself but you get the idea. Now I know that I need a shoulder slot height of at least 25.5" and a skull touching headrest height of 33" or more. My seat selection just became much easier!

Looks like the PRP Comp elite fits the bill. With a +2" height option and a -1" Podium seat cushion the end result will put me exactly where I measured myself. 33" headrest & 25.5" shoulder slot.
The Comp Pro highback might be an option too but I need to call and get the measurements I need since they don't list them.

(Years ago) when I called PRP directly, They had me measure just like you did. they will build whatever/however you want (options not on the website, or not clearly available).

I had them build the seats in my last rig, I think they were the cheap comp high backs w/ something like +3" higher in the back, mud drains, double shoulder strap harness holes, etc

they won't anymore. At least that's what the person I got on the phone told me.

Picture dump of some PRP podiums, Baja xp and Simpson seat in my rig. They all bolt up to the same mounts.
You can see how wildly different they are.

I called Mastercraft in Indianapolis. They said the 3G seat is 22" from seat to shoulder slot & can be built 3" taller for an extra $150. They're knob adjustable lumbar setup is the ****!

The wingless Pro & Pro4 have removable seat cushions as an option, but that's an extra $125.

Thanks Bebop for the picture dump. I wasn't expecting the results but I can clearly see a difference in angle between the Simpson & Corbeau despite both seats advertised as being 75°.

Nice color combo on that Podium btw.

The low harness slots is what pushed me away from corbeaus and the lower end Mastercraft seats. They are ridiculously unsafe with the angles they put your shoulder harness if your over 5'7.

I ended up going with an OMP Racing fia rated fiberglass seat. It seems like the majority of racers who break their back is from improper harness angles and suspension seats. The main argument I read against suspension seats is on big hits you will come loose in your harness.

Ps: can get them through Amazon prime. If you don't fit send them back for free.

A lot of good reading here: https://www.race-dezert.com/forum/t...ack-at-the-parker-425-suspension-seats.58050/

This is for a trail rig/crawler. Thanks, but that seat is useless in my rig & I'm not interested in going down the FIA seat discussion rabbit hole.

Lets assume that the OMP does fit me and the shoulder wings don't impede my ability to comfortably operate my shifter that's mounted right next to me, (something I mentioned earlier), it's still made of the wrong materials for this application and doesn't meet my needs.
From the cloth to the pad, none of it is suitable for outdoor use in an open cockpit rig. The velour cloth is much less durable than the best tweed made and just like the pad, will soak up & hold water like a sponge & I have no interest in sitting on a wet muddy sponge all day. It also doesn't address the issue I had with my seats holding a gallon of muddy water everytime I get caught in a rainstorm or wash it. There's no drain of any kind & I doubt drilling them into a hard shell seat would be a good idea.

I have to compromise in some way. 1- I need a seat taller than most will build. 2- It must allow water to drain away without the seat surface remaining wet for hours. If dirt can fall way & not collect that's a plus. 3- Surface must be made of durable materials suitable for getting wet, dirty & sustaining UV light. 4- Must be 5th belt compatible with slot located close to crotch. 5- Must be comfortable enough to spend 10hrs a day in. 6- Must have medium to full hip containment & not impede use of the shifter.

( The last point means those with wings or shoulder containment may or may not work for me, I honestly don't know)

Only thing I found that closely matches is
1. PRP Comp Elite
2. PRP Comp Pro
If the shoulder wings work for me then I can include
3. PRP Podium Elite
4. Mastercraft 3G or 3G-4
If PRP they'll be covered in either marine vinyl or 1000d Cordura.

If there's something else out there then I can't find it. Lots of nice stuff around but the lack of posted measurements has no doubt been the biggest hurdle and the lack of desire for custom seat makers to give you this info confuses the hell out of me. I don't get it.
