Questions about Naches

How did you acquire ORV tabs for your buggy. I haven't really looked into this much but I know Trevor just said he puts a plate on his rigs and hasn't had really any problems. Like I said earlier I just usually just put my 76 FJ40 plate on the back and hope for the best. I usually run on county roads and FS roads around where I live and thankfully haven't been harassed yet but that could change pretty quick once i came upon a patrolman.

If you had a title from a vehicle (CJ, TJ, YJ, fj40, etc) you could go down to the DOL and request to license the vehicle as an ORV. ORV tabs are cheaper. You would be legal to run the trails, but would not be legal to run the FS roads. If you do get pulled over on the FS road, I think they can only write you a ticket for operating an ORV on a road...mudflap, fender flare, bumper height, no insurance tickets would not apply.

Good Luck

Thanks I'll look into this. I have a FJ frame and vin that I'm going to try and use to register my buggy. I if it comes down to it I'll chop off the vin and weld it to my chassis. I know its not totally legal but I plan on having FJ skins one of these days when I get motivation.

This is how I do it......Likely they will never even look for your vin. Just go down and buy tabs for the FJ then put them on the buggy. Illegal, probabaly but unethical, no.

I would NOT transfer the VIN.....just asking for trouble.Get the ORV plate/tag under the FJ title, put the tag on the buggy and LET IT BE.

My buggy is a 90 cherokee sport.....

with no vin (legit or not) if its ever stolen or impounded for ANY reason, you cant prove ownership to get it released. but you can always out bid folks like me to get it back!

find an old toyota being parted out and ask if it has the origanal vin or a WSP one. if its ever been stolen and tags removed, WSP will relocate it with a nice green vin tag that is riveted on with normal rivets, not hex rivets. 2 out of three toyotas have been ripped off sometime or another, its not hard to find one thats been through inspection and had the vin put in the door jamb. buy the tag and title, rivet the tag on your buggy, and when stopped (if ever) just say, "I took it to WSP and they inspected it and put a vin on it right here, and said have a nice day. looks like every kit car registartion/tag out there.

and PS use as old a title as you can find so you dont have emmisions probs.:awesomework:

if you do ORV tag it, only buy tags once just to get the registration sticker, then get your ORV tags in oregon if your down there, good for 2 years and $10. oregon kicks ass, no computers, just hand written forms for tags.

Is the OR ORV tag valid for WA? Wouldn't he still have to buy WA ORV tags each year? :scratchhead:

Oregon will honor off road permits from the following states:

Alaska
California
Colorado
Idaho
Illinois
Indiana
Missouri
Montana
North Dakota
Pennsylvania
South Carolina
Utah
Vermont
Washington *
Wisconsin

* Anyone riding in Oregon is required to have an off road permit/decal for off road areas. This is a state law. Reciprocity is granted to those individuals who have a valid off road permit/decal. This is the only permit which we accept in our reciprocity agreement with other states. Within Washington's laws, they offer reciprocity to other states under two directions, ORV permit or vehicle license. Only one is similar to our program and that is the ATV Permit/Decal. Dual sport motorcycles with license plates do not qualify under the reciprocity agreement.

Looks like WA/OR residents are good to go :awesomework:
